D.Hocking 5-9 2 Base Error - SS b-2 gb(SS)x F9
L.Mazzilli 2-7 Single (LF) 2-3 b-1 F9
Caught Stealing 3-H 1-o
Hocking on 3rd, Mazzilli on 1st - Mazzilli caught stealing, Hocking scores, but is not credited with a stolen base?
The only thing I can think that happened is Hocking got caught in a rundown and he managed to score..?
Is that feasible?

Looks like a delayed steal where the runner on third runs with the throw to second. I guess since they let the throw through to second and got the out there, it's a fielder's choice rather than SB for the lead runner? Which seems strange because if the cutoff man had an equal chance at the lead runner, he surely would've thrown to home.

and he wasn't credited with a stolen base in the boxscore? I am wondering if it is just a quirk with how the play by play is listed. Can you post a link to the game?

If one runner is caught stealing, other runners are not credited with a stolen base.
From the MLB rule book 9.07 Stolen Bases and Caught Stealing:
(d) When a double- or triple-steal is attempted and one runner is
thrown out before reaching and holding the base such runner is
attempting to steal, no other runner shall be credited with a
stolen base.

That makes sense. You'll usually see that with runners on 1st & 2nd and the lead runner is thrown out at 3rd. I didn't realize that the same rule applies to this situation.
Great find - Thanks!

I always thought that if the lead runner was safe he got a steal even if another runner was thrown out. I was wrong.
So it is essentially advancing on a throw for the runner on 3rd then.
