MLB is moving away from the ridiculous amount of division games to a more fair and balanced schedule next season.

Does anyone else see three divisions of 4 teams with nearly half your games against your division as random, stupid, and not very fair?

Wouldn't two divisions of 6 with two wild cards and a much more balanced schedule work a lot better?

No longer would the 3 or even 4 best teams get stuck in the same division without a fair chance at the playoffs.


MLB has finally figured this out. It's not fair to teams like Tampa and Baltimore compared to teams like Minnesota, Cleveland and Chicago.

No more will St.Louis and Milwaukee get 60+ games against The Reds, Pirates and Cubs, while Arizona gets 60+ games against the Dodgers, Padres and Giants.


I am just asking for a little common sense. If MLB can figure it out and change for the better, why can't Strat-o-matic?

At least give STRAT commissioners the option for either format

Tampa has had no trouble making the playoffs under the current scheduling.

I don't mind the imbalanced schedule in 365. It creates more extreme environments to tailor my team to. If I'm tailoring my team more to the league than the division, I think my teams will end up more similar to each other than they currently are, because the composition of the league will almost always be closer to average and less extreme than the division.

Why shouldn't I play more games against the teams that I'm competing against for my division? Makes pretty good sense to me. I'd prefer it stays the way it is.

Also there's always 24-team leagues for those who want a more balanced schedule...

I do like the changes in the context of MLB though, it'll be cool to play every team every year.

Yes on the last few statements. And after all, there is nothing unfair about it at all--everyone gets handed the same schedule structure.

4 team divisions yield a darn good chance you can win the division, by competing in a smaller pool. It keeps things interesting longer. Pro baseball used to have two large leagues and interest waned after mid season. So this idea regarding league structure is not new--it was abandoned.

What's perceived as "unfair" seems to be--"I am stuck in a division with many managers better than me" while the other division isn't. Well that has nothing to do with fairness any more than it is unfair that I am not 6'7" and also couldn't score consistently in the paint.

The ideal alignment and schedule for our 12-team leagues is two divisions, 18 games vs. division teams (90 games) and 12 games vs. other division (72 games).

Just makes too much sense for these guys at SOM to do it that way right from the very beginning.
