Mantle, Mays, Aaron, weren't tall, huge guys, just purely athletic.

Mickey Mantle -- 5-11, 195lb
Willie Mays -- 5-10, 170lb
Henry Aaron -- 6-0, 180lb

And me, Hack Wilson, I was just 5-6, 190lb.

All heights and weights from Baseball-Reference. :)

Had no idea Hack Wilson was Altuve's height...190 seems pretty hefty for 5'6" though

Ernie Banks is listed at 6'1" 180#, he must have been soaking wet when they weighed him, because he was a beanpole. I always said he was probably closer to 160 than 180

When he played with Milwaukee, Aaron was 170, the first 5 years in Atlanta, he was 175, he wasn't 180 till 1970 or so...

Great picture! Amazing that Hack could play CF with that chunky body.
Those three guys were some pretty fair hitters. I looked it up, and in 1930 when Hack drove in his record 191 runs, Babe had 153 RBI and Lou had 173 RBI. That's 517 RBI from three hitters in that photo in a single season. Hard to believe, but it happened!

...and they only made an averaged of 46 years old when they died!

Lou = 37
Hack = 48
Babe = 53

that last comment got me looking around. And onto this gem. Not a short read and certainly something I've read in pieces before. It is focused on Iron Man and the Babe.

For Hack, I recommend this--a fun read...
