for making the regular season meaningless with 3 game series involving almost half the teams in the sport.

Man I'm just glad the awful 1-game Wild Card is gone.

Curious as to what you would prefer?

Less wild cards and longer series?

I agree. It’s just trying to squeeze revenue. With the playoffs not starting until October it also pushes the season deeper into the fall, which I’m not a big fan of either.

I don’t think it’s bad. What a great series we got from the Mets and the brewers. 12 teams is still less than all the other 4 major sports.

"Sucks less than..." isn't a shining endorsement.

I agree -- it's not really fair that one of each League's three Division champs is subject to a best of three game series (in which both Houston and Milwaukee were eliminated this year). But I look at the play-offs as separate from the regular season, and think that two separate championships should be recognized. One team for winning the World Series, and another for having the best record in the regular season. A team that prevails over the course of 162 games with the best record of 30 teams should be given a trophy and recognized as a Regular Season Champion. The play-offs seeding the 12 (or preferably 10) best teams resulting in a World Series Champ is a separate one-month tournament involving different strategies.

I'd prefer 4 divisions, 7 or 8 teams each. American and National leagues with 15 teams each, or East and West.
Each Division winner from each league plays a best of 7, League winners play a best of 7 WS. Why hasn't anyone ever thought of 2 divisions in each league and 2 levels of playoffs?
