Hank Greenberg 1934: Doubles!

Figured I'd try Hank Greenberg's 1934 card because of the gargantuan doubles, especially in a league with more lefty starters (rocks the doubles on southpaws, 24.4%):

In 96 games, 46 doubles already! Playing in a small ball park with speedy guys ahead of him:

My team is just so-so, but wanted to try this card in the right context for max output. It's not your typical HR-driven Greenberg card, it was one of his earlier years (second full season). Greenberg was actually quite a prolific doubles hitter throughout his career.

53 doubles so far in 111 games ... he has so many doubles, and a decent amount of HRs (23 so far), that he may reach 100 extra base hits this season, something I really like and look for ... especially in the value context of a hitter with a $7.69M salary. :)

Nice, I'll have to give that card a try sometime.

Cobb with 30 triples also very impressive. 4 20 game winners as well. Nice season.

Can you tell me what you were feeding Hank? My version clearly doesn't have the same diet:

I was feeding him a lot of left-handed pitching -- that's his best side for doubles. In building this team, I noticed a majority of lefty starters in the league. On your team, looks like he's seeing mostly righthanded pitching.

Chief Wilson 1912 has that triples record that always gets me excited - after all, it IS the most exciting play in the game. 8-)
