1st inning closer?

Why does HAL bring in my closer (with the closer designation) in the first inning after, as good fortune would have it, my starter is injured after one out in the first?

I have three relievers who are rested and ready, as well as two starters with reliever endurance. Why start with the designated closer? It feels like that leads to inevitable late game collapse, which of course happened.

I was thinking, maybe they included the "closer" designation just because he is my designated closer, but I thought when a player was brought in for a specific role, they included the role, and nothing when not for that role?

Bullpen logic is a mess ever since SOM tinkered with it to do away with the 300 inning relievers, at least before you had some asemblance of control, now it's get some 9L, 9R, and R5 relievers and let Hal do his thing. There is no real control of bullpens
