Bullpen issues again

Two RPs, one 9L the other 9R. I just realized that I had not marked the 'Avoid LHB/RHB' boxes for these guys. I assumed maybe the system was smart enough to handle that but it's certainly not the case.

My 9L pitcher has faced 49 LHBs and 81, yes 81 RHBs. My 9R pitcher has faced 91 RHBs and 111 LHBs. Really? I have now marked the appropriate boxes and hope that these trends will cease but it's silly to see something like this in a supposedly 'smart' game.

I think the balance ratings are just a visual for our benefit to help us in comparing, etc.
I do not think the code looks that closely at them if it looks at them at all. My bet is computer manager just looks at whether pitcher/batter hits right or left.
This is one area where it would be nice to have someone familiar with the code here on the boards who could confirm.
Whether it does or not is less relevant to me than knowing if it does or not so I can adjust/plan accordingly.

If you want Sambito (9L) to face only LH batters, list him as LH specialist and check the boxes "quick hook" and "avoid RH batters." That seems to work for me, but generally he doesn't face more than one or two batters. It's a lot more effective in high-cap leagues where you can afford a deeper pen. In lower-cap leagues, I'd take my chances with a more balanced pen.

I agree with Tom. Plus, there are MANY instances when you bring in your specialist and the offense then brings in a pinch-hitter that counters it, and by rule the new pitcher must face one batter.

Has anyone tried a larger bullpen in a lower cap, say an 80m cap? I'm curious if that would work. I might just try it myself... 8-)

PJ, I feel like I had a team or two in the past in which I used a 7-man bullpen--2 lefty specialists, 2 righty specialists, 1 setup, 1 closer, and 1 long-man (mop up). Maybe I even had an 8-man pen once... but since we don't have access to those older teams still, I can't tell you at all.
