OK thanks. I delete my old drafts from DD routinely to keep the site from bogging down.

Hi Moose,
Let me ask a question for the sake of clarification. Are the votes for salary cap and the votes for DH/no DH two separate votes, or are they part of a single vote? My impression is that according to the rules these are two distinct votes. The way the voting rules were written would appear to support this, where "DH/NO DH" is set off by separate slash marks:
Draft position #1 / 100 Mil / DH/NO DH / SOM LD or DD LD

Also, most voters have picked up on this by including a comma after the salary cap, suggesting that they understood these to be distinct votes.
If that's true, then perhaps the votes should be recorded somewhat differently. Here's how the voting is indicated now:
mighty moose wrote:80-MIL DH (3)
80-MIL NO DH (1)
100 MIL DH (2)
200 MIL DH (2)

However, if I'm right, we have 4 votes for 80M, 2 votes for 100M and 2 votes for 200M.
And regarding the DH/No DH, we have 7 votes for DH and 1 vote for No DH. If this reading is correct, it's going to be simpler to get to a majority regarding salary cap and the DH question has already been settled.

I think it's good that we get this cleared up now, while we have plenty of time. ;)

Tom,

I think what I actually envisioned for the cap/dh vote was for it to go hand in hand - so in other words for the 80/100 vote you had four choices 80-DH / 80-NO DH / 100 DH / 100 NO DH - so while you may prefer no DH for 80, you may also prefer DH for 100. That's why above I list only one set above rather than splitting them and having a separate accounting for both CAP and DH.

I can understand how putting them on a line separated by a slash would give the conclusion that you have reached. That was my error. And yes I wrote the rules (with collaboration from the board members) and probably need to consider making them more clear.

It doesn't look like any of this will matter now as only the 3 Semi-Finalists are left to vote and it's not likely that they will want to vote an option that has only a slim chance of winning (80 NO DH) and they would all have to pick that.

Perhaps I just gave too much flexibility in this area by opening up caps other than 80 and 100 as having a 200 Mil final does seem somewhat absurd to me. Perhaps for next year, I may just get the board to vote on the Finals and not give a choice. The extreme ends of the salary cap scale (60/140/200) are not considered the normal league and so winning there may not be considered as much of a skill (since most people don't play them as often as 80/100)

The "standard" beginners autoleague that SOM automatically generates is still 80 Mil. We did have a poll sometime back over in the ATG section for what caps do you prefer and I recall that 100 beat out 80 by a surprising margin, so I might be inclined to say that 100 may be the "new" normal league.

Hopefully this clears up the issue ?

Thanks, Moose! This is all fine with me.

I just thought it would be good to have a decision before the semi-final winners come on board. :D

That would be like closing the Presidential election before the polls close in Alaska and Hawaii, with the leader having amassed 268 electoral votes.

Ahoy,

Didn't we have that poll thing in 2000 and 2004?

having a 200 Mil final does seem somewhat absurd to me

Why is that? 200 mil is the only event where ALL of the top cards get used. There are four events (60, 80, and both 100 MM) events where it's important to know the middle and lower tier players and one (140 MM) where the top tier predominates but judicious use of bargain cards is required. 200 MM is the only cap where you can pretty much use whoever you get. And a 200 MM Dope draft would ensure that anyone who had a "bad" draft brought it on their own head.

Personally I think the final should be some random cap like 123 MM or 91 MM to see who really knows the card set, not who has the best "canned" team at a particular cap. In fact, I would be in favor of averaging the caps voted for and using a DH since that seems to be the consensus.

Another point in favor of the 200 MM cap is that (in AD leagues, anyway) you have to trade to win, since you aren't going to get more than about 15-16 guys off your draft card. This also applies, less frequently, to 140 MM AD leagues.

The semi-finals concluded last night.

Congratulations to the below league winners !

The winners and their win count (to determine drafting positions) were:

sociophil - 96 wins
hendrix08 - 93 wins
Morpheus - 92 wins

sociophil has been informed that he is next to make his voting selections - I will get Hendrix08 and Morpheus in after that. I will get the live draft setup as soon as all players have voted.

Drafting spots 8-9-10 are left.
