If you do not place your extra 10 players in the highest priority slots, you will have virtually no chance of getting them.

I would not agree with that - or at least it was stated a tad too strongly. I suspect that with such a huge player pool, you might still get all 10 of your scrubs regardless of where they were on your list.

In any case, it seems nels has gone AWOL. Haven't heard from him on one of our other drafts since Monday. I do hope he is okay. (Moose, it might be worth an email to check on him)

FWIW, nels made a live final pick in our draft at 17:40 yesterday, several hours after his time expired, 7 minutes after I skipped him.
