Just highlighting some previous posts re Tourney Playoffs...

These were previously posted on the thread "**Important**2013 PC Tournament Details, and Q&A**":

"Semi-Finals
Top 36 Managers play in 3 leagues of 12
(All 12 playoffs qualifiers advance to Champions League)
Salary Cap: $80,000,000 (standard)
DH Rule: Yes (standard)
Free Agent Drop Penalty: 20% (standard)

Champions League ("Unleashed" player set)
the 12 Semi-Finals playoffs qualifiers in a single 12-team league
Salary Cap: $80,000,000
DH Rule: Yes (standard)
Free Agent Drop Penalty: 20% (standard)"

"Subject to the commissioner's final discretion, it is intended that for the semi-finals, there will be a live draft for the ballpark only (not for player drafts). Not only will the re-use of ballparks from events 1-5 be prohibited for the semi-finals, but furthermore, we will require use of unique ballparks for the semi-final round, and the finals. The order of drafting in both the semi-finals and the finals will be based on the point scoring in events 1-5. The drafts will NOT be serpentine for the finals - i.e. the draft order will be repeated in each round. These "seeding" rules for the draft order provide an incentive and a reward for the managers who finish with the highest scores in events 1 through 5.

Re ballparks in semi-finals:

Since each semi-finalist will have already used 5 different ballparks in events 1-5, they may not re-use those ballparks in the semi-finals. So, if a manager is picking 12th for the live ballpark draft in the semi-finals, they will have to choose from one of the 14 remaining ballparks (30 minus 5, minus 11 ballparks already drafted in that semi-final event).

Re ballparks in the finals

Same as for the semi-finals, except they also cannot re-use the ballpark that they used in the semi-finals, so that they can choose from one of the remaining 13 ballparks.

Finals player/ballpark draft

Subject to the commissioner's final discretion, the finals will use a live player/ballpark draft, consisting of 21 rounds. Each player must draft a ballpark, and such players that they can field a valid draft roster for the auto-draft of the remaining 5 players. So, they could not draft one ballpark and 20 hitters, since they would not be able to draft sufficient pitchers to have a valid autodraft roster."

"Semi-Finals round

After all 5 Events are completed, the top 36 ranked tournament managers will play in 3 leagues of 12 teams each in the Semi-Finals round. The 12 teams that qualify for the playoffs (4 from each of the 3 leagues) will advance to the

Other content from the main tournament page:

Champions League

The 12 teams that qualify for the playoffs in the Semi-Finals round (4 from each of the 3 leagues) will advance to the Champions League, which is a single 12-team league. The winner of the Finals in this league will be crowned as the tournament champion. "

"Playoff Schedule:

The Semi-Finals (see description on posts below) will commence with a "check in" and live ballpark draft, commencing January 2 (or sooner), with the auto draft occurring on or before January 11. This will enable the semi-finals to end by March 18.

The check-in and live draft for the finals (see below) will commence on March 20, and conclude by April 3 (or sooner), with the remaining autodraft occurring by April 5.

By June 10, 2014 we will crown 2013 PC champion and runner-up!!!!"

Since we're heading into the homestretch here, just want to make sure I've got this all straight:

1- In the semis, we draft our ballparks live before we autodraft our teams. Ballparks must be unique for every team (and no ballpark can be reused if used in rounds 1-5).

2- In the finals, we live draft both the ballpark and 20 players, and the draft is top down every round, according to our rank at the end of the preliminary qualifying rounds of the tourney. In other words, the remaining team with the highest points from the prelims drafts first in every round. Ditto on the unique ballparks rule from #1.

Is that correct? I like the unique ballparks angle, not thrilled with this new finals drafting development; but I'll have to get there anyway before I feel chagrined about it. :D

PS - Ongoing gratitude to GB for really riding herd effectively on all this.

Exactly right!

Thanks!

Re the live draft in the finals -

1. This is a repost of something that I posted right at the beginning of the tourny. It might seem new, but I posted it quite a while ago.

2. The live draft is "subject to the commissioner's final discretion". Basically, if the new live draft system at strat is up and running, we'll use it for the finals. I am in a "theme" league that uses "diamond dope" for a live draft every time we play, so I've gotten familiar with it. Although it works great in theory, the diamond dope site seems to get VERY slow sometimes, it seems to be particularly sluggish with hand held smart phones and IPads, and it seems to just not "like" some peoples' computers sometimes. So I'm thinking I don't want to cause issues for players with the finals by having a live draft that may present some players with practical problems. But if the new strat live draft system is working well by that time,(and if it's been play tested by a few of us folks), we may use it for the finals, as I envisioned.

Thanks Tom!

For what it's worth, for various reasons I play nothing but regular autodraft strat leagues. I have never done a live draft. I'm not saying I won't do one for this tourney - I will. But, seeing as the whole tournament has been run via autodraft, I was a little surprised to see the live draft come into play for the postseason.

I'm pretty sure that the PC Tourney had a live draft a couple of years ago, for the finals. So it's not brand new.

But, it is my discretion, and I won't decide until the time approaches. If it seems like it's too much of a "curveball", then I'll stick with a ballpark draft. I might have us do a live draft of maybe the first few rounds, or maybe just the first 2 first rounds, which we could do live on the boards instead of using a live draft system. I welcome everyone's comments, thoughts and suggestions.

The idea behind the live draft (in whatever form it might take) is to take a small amount of the randomness out of it, and to provide a reward to people like yourself who finished high in the standings.

*QUESTION*

In the semi's....will divisions be random after the stadium draft or will we know our division foes prior to the stadium draft?

Divisions will NOT be random. They will be known in advance, and assigned based on seeding amongst the top 36.

The seeding is serpentine -

-first of all, to assign the players to their semi-final leagues - i.e. (numbers refer to order of finish):

Semi League#1

1, 6, 7, 12, 13, 18, 19, 24, 25, 30, 31, 36

Semi League#2

2, 5, 8, 11, 14, 17, 20, 23, 26, 29, 32, 35

Semi League#3

3, 4, 9, 10, 15, 16, 21, 22, 27, 28, 33, 34

And then within each league, to each division, using the same serpentine principle

#1
East

1, 18, 19, 36

Central
6, 13, 24, 31

West
7, 12, 25, 30

#2
East

2, 17, 20, 35

Central
5, 14, 23, 32

West
8, 11, 26, 29

#3
East

3, 16, 21, 34

Central
4, 15, 22, 33

West
9, 10, 27, 28

Again, if anyone has any questions or concerns with all of this, this is the best time to raise questions/concerns.
