This is my post on the other thread. Really really sorry, spicki17, but we just had to keep things moving.

spicki17, I'm really sorry that you missed this, but I had made a personal rule, which I expressed on the boards in 2012 (I'll have to check whether I said this on this year's tournament's boards), that I only communicate by PM and on these discussion boards, for the purposes of the PC tournament. (Update - I don't think I said this in this year's tournament, but since I never asked anyone (including yourself) for personal emails, and since I never communicated that way, you may reasonably infer from that, that I won't be communicating that way).

Please note that it is possible (as I myself have done) to have a strat Private Message trigger an email to your real life email account.

This was one of the conditions that I set for myself in taking on the commissioner role. I know myself well enough to know that trying to communicate with tournament members by real life emails would not work for me, on a personal level. I am truly sorry that you missed the PM's and notes on these boards, but those are the rules that I set for myself and for the PC tournament communication.

I had posted on these PC boards several times that the semi-final ballpark selection and check in would commence "January 2 or sooner". We have to get this going so that the entire playoffs can be completed by June, according to the original plan, which has been posted several times, including the January 2 check-in.

I don't expect it will make you feel any better, but you're not the first person to miss out on the PC playoffs for failure to check in on these boards.

I'm sure that right now, you're just angry and upset. I'm truly sad that this happened for you, and I hope you will participate in future tournaments.

Spicki17.....looks like I got screwed by this mode of communication too. I know Strat online is just a fun game, but I actually was so proud I made the playoffs. First time ever in the Players or the Barnstormers tournies after many tries. I told my wife and son too - silly, but I was so excited. Looks like I forfeited my playoff spot because of this exclusive communication via the forums. I almost never check the forums, but I am always managing 10-20 teams and I check them every day. I could easily have been tracked down, or I would have seen a message on any league homepage under Strat-o-Matic news. That's where the winner of each tourney is posted, why not announce the start of playoffs there???

LongIsland4Ever - I acknowledge your comments. For what it's worth, I sent you 2 separate private messages as well. I'm really sad for you and spicki17. Again, I have only communicated this way for the 2012 and 2013 tourneys. I'm sad for both of you.

For what it's worth, I don't go into the forums very often and I NEVER have looked at private messages. In fact I just looked for 10 minutes and finally found them. I wasted a lot of money and time on this tournament. Never again. UGH!!!

Sorry guys but I have to back GBrookes here. All communication has been done through this forum so why wouldn't it be for the playoffs? There has to be some personal accountability.

Of course there is accountability. I'm just frustrated. Especially since I am on strat on-line every day, just not the forums. Last time I checked the forums was around Christmas. It's amazingly bad luck for the precise 2 week I didn't check the forums all the news about the playoffs was posted. In less than 10 days it went from "playoffs set" to "you forfeit". Seems a bit extreme to me.

No reason it couldn't be posted as a headline on the league home pages or on the home page Strat news "calling players championship participants - playoff notification". I check my 10-20 teams every day. Not a chance I would have missed it. I see the players champion posted in this manner and many other significant strat news. Absolutely no reason not to do it in this instance.

"You forfeit" in a less than 10 day window???? Really?

I just re-checked. Layoffs set Dec 31, I forfeit by noon on Jan 7. This is WAY too short of a window. I am sorry. This is bad form in my opinion.

This is my first year playing the Players Championship, and I played the Barnstormers for the first time, and I am playing the mystery tourny too. Being a first time player I was well aware of the place to go for information and when I decided to commit both in time and financially to entering these tourny's I made sure to know where I was going to get the information I needed as there is a ton of coordination that needs to happen.

I am thoroughly impressed by the amount of time, energy, and diligence that the commissioner's of these tournys are putting onto the communication an administration of the tourny's. You can not be upset at them because you did not take it upon yourself to understand the rules, form of communication, and structure of how the tourny's are run. Take it as a learning opportunity for knowing how to participate in future tourny's and enter them and have fun. Just remember that if you are going to enter these things then plan on using the forums at least during the tourny. There is standings pages, league coordination, etc. going on all time.

Sorry you guys didn't seem to be on the same page as everyone else but the problem with you missing out isn't their fault.

Good luck in your leagues, I hope to see you guys in future tournys!
