The 2012 Players' Championship (2011 Season player set)

This tournament is now officially assuming the place of the 2012 Players' Championship, with the official support of Strat-O-Matic! As customary, SOM is providing a Grand Prize of baseball tickets up to a $300 value, and a Runner-Up Prize of tickets up to a $150 value!

Note: A 4th Event has been added to the schedule; otherwise all other details on the format remain the same as originally designed by gbrookes.

All events are 12 team leagues with the 2011 set. Only event 3 and the playoff round will use the unleashed set.

Event 1 - $80 million DH
Event 2 - $60 million no DH
Event 3 - $100 million, DH, unleashed set.
Event 4 - $80 million, no DH

24 team championship round - $60 million, unleashed set, no DH.

The “world series” winner from the 24 team championship round is declared the Sweepstakes champion. The point system is therefore only relevant for determining standings for making it into the 24 team championship round.

All leagues will be have a waiver draft, and a 20% free agent drop penalty. (There won’t be any 5/10/20 drop penalties or 10% drop penalties).

Use of ballparks –
• A player must not re-use a ballpark in any event. For example, if he used Fenway in Event 1, he may not use Fenway in events 2 or 3, nor may he use Fenway in the playoff round.
• There can be more than 1 player using the same ballpark in the same event and/or league. For example, player X and player Y may both use Fenway in event 1 league 1. In theory, the same ballpark could be used by all 12 teams in any league or event. The prohibition relates to the same player using the same ballpark.
• A player who is acting as a “filler” for a particular event and league should also refrain from using that ballpark in any other event or league. So, a player acting as a filler should avoid using a ballpark that he may want to use for an active team in a separate event.

Any league that is formed with the incorrect settings will be disregarded. If a player re-uses a ballpark, there will be a 20 point penalty.

Point system (events 1-4 only):
• 1 point for every regular season win
• 5 points for making the playoffs (wildcard or division winners all get the same 5 point bonus)
• Another 5 points for making it to the finals
• Another 5 points for winning the finals

GBrookes (that's me) will be the commissioner for the 2012 Player's Championship.

COMMUNICATION NOTE - in an attempt to reduce my workload on this, ALL of the communication will occur on the forum discussion boards, or by messages on these boards. We will NOT be using personal emails. I would prefer comments to be posted on these boards instead of even by messages to me. Comments can be seen by everyone, and then the questions can be answered once for everyone - in theory anyway. Messages on these boards are my second preference. There is also a question and answer thread in this Player's Championship folder. A separate forum thread will be set up for each event, and for each league.

This thread will serve as the sign up thread.

Please enter your registration in the 2012 Player's Championship by (1) entering your strat user name here, and by (2) indicating whether or not you are willing to be a filler (extra player when needed to complete a league of 12 for the tournament).

Ok. Let's get to 12 and play; three events as stated.

Ultimate winner determined by:
1. Player who wins most championships in the three events regardless of points.

* In the event of a tie (three events three different winners) the winner is one of the three winners-of events- who has the most points according to G.Brookes point system. That is, unless people think a winner could come from someone who has the most points even if they did not win one of three events.

Maybe this will get us going.
