Preliminary PC 2013 standings

These standings are preliminary/early, since there are 5 events, and since your score is for the best 4 of 5 events. If you enter all 5 events, you get a bonus for that, but you also get to ignore your worst event score for the overall scoring.

These results are also preliminary in the sense that only some of the event 1 playoff bonus points are included at this early date. Some event 1 leagues haven't finished the regular season yet.

The ultimate point system is as described on the tournament main page, and the sign up page on these boards.

However, for the sake of having preliminary results that are comparable from player to player, the following point system was used. (1) Adjust player event results (i.e. wins plus playoff bonus points) by adding .5 for each game not yet played, up to the normal final schedule of 162 games, for event manager results where 162 games have not yet been played. Fractions are rounded up. (2) The best 2 out of 3 event results are counted. Since there are 3 events to this point (event 4 opens today), the best 2 event scores are counting so far for each player.(3) SInce the time to enter event 3 has not yet closed (event 2 closes today, August 21), I have assumed (for now) that the player will enter event 3. This will of course change if a player does not ultimately enter event 3. (4) Penalty points for re-using ballparks have not been applied yet.

Since the best 2 event scores are included to this point, the base points for these preliminary standings would be 162 points (assuming 81 wins in each of 2 events). If you've won more often than losing, or if you have playoff bonus points already, your score will be over 162. If you have lost more than you have won, your score will be less than 162.

The results through Tuesday August 20 are included so far.

For players not yet entered in event 5, the method assumes 81 wins for event 5, pending the determination of their actual participation and results in event 5.

I have not yet added any bonus points for entering all 5 events. If you have already entered all 5 events, then 5 points will utlimately be added to your score - just not as of these standings. I wanted to wait until the deadline for entering event 5 before posting those bonus points, just to avoid temporary movement in the standings from those points.

Players are strongly encouraged to enter all 5 events!!!! If you had a bad event score, it is extremely important to enter all 5 events, so that you can "drop" your worst event score. Also, you earn 5 bonus points for entering all 5 events! Also, you should note that the playoff bonus points are very significant in the Players Championship. If you have a shot at some playoff series victories, you have a shot at some big points gains!

I have not attempted to apply any tie-breaker tests at this time. For simplicity, I have just listed the standings in numeric order, without recognizing ties or tie-breakers, for my simplicity at this point.

Remember - the top 36 participants advance to the semi-final playoff round - 3 12 team leagues, with the 4 playoff teams from each of those leagues advancing to the final championship league!

(5) means that the player has yet to enter event 5
(**) means that the player has missed one of events 1 through 4. Missing event 5 as well would likely result in elimination from the playoff race (spots 1 through 36).

^^^ At the present moment, the cut-off for a tie for 36th spot is 346 points (adjusted for games in hand etc., as above).

However, there are 27 (!!!) players within 10 points of that cut-off spot. It's really important to note that a playoff berth and one series win will get you 10 bonus points (just as one example). So keep on playing!!! All it takes is one successful playoff run to rack up a lot of bonus points!!!

Remember - 5 bonus points will be awarded for entering all 5 events (not yet reflected in above point totals). Also, you can only drop your worst score if you enter all 5 events.

One more thing - there are LOTS of bonus points that are still up for grabs in events 2, 3, 4 and 5, for teams that make playoffs and win playoff series in each league. (Yeah, there's still one playoff to come in event 2!) Each league has a total of 35 bonus points - 15 for league champion, 10 for finalist, and 5 each for the other 2 playoff teams. So there's lots of potential for movement in the standings.

So keep playing till the last out in the last game!

also worth mentioning the low total gets dropped so
player JoeBlow might have more points based upon say their two lowest events both being 84-78 for 164 wins is really behind someone whose two lowest events are 86-76 and 82-82 for 164 wins.

Correct - although the way I did the standings above, I've already dropped the lowest score (at least the low score at the moment) for each player who has entered all 5 events.

But lots can change, as players' teams go on winning streaks and slumps. So keep fighting to the end of event 5!
