Looking towards 2017...

As the 2016 Championship will be commencing soon, it's time to start thinking about the 2017 Tour, and therefore,Tour commissioner.

I was lucky enough to have had JPav lay the groundwork for me last year, so stayed on point and kept those same rules in place in order to start maintaining consistency year over year. As commish, I also excluded myself from the tournament, in order to eliminate any potential conflicts of interest. I also tried to be as minimally vocal throughout, thinking that would eliminate a lot of unnecessary, or distracting, arguments about seemingly insignificant issues. Perhaps by total coincidence, that was achieved.

Now, I can tell you that while the actual role is not a difficult one, it does involve a lot of tedium, and the hassle of chasing down managers that aren't exactly prompt at loading their teams by specified dates. And I was severely bummed about not competing (other than serving as a sub when needed)...sort of left me feeling like an outsider to the whole Tour. Fortunately, JPav was, and still is, extremely diligent in double checking totals, answering questions, and being a constant presence throughout. Again, I can't thank him enough for all his help.

So as you, we, all start moving towards the Final 2016 Championship season, and the new set rolls out, if anyone has an interest in serving as this year's commish, please speak up now.

Thank you!

I have no problem if the commish participates.

It was more a choice just to avoid accusations of conflicts of interest. I'd encourage the next commish to participate, cuz it really is a bummer sitting out the tourney

For me, all I will say is that I had my reasons.

But I will now say that after two years of the tour running as smoothly as it has (hard dates, randomized leagues, etc.), I too agree that the Commish could participate. There just haven't been any significant "rulings" necessary to create any serious conflict of interest questions (or even perceptions of such). The tour kind of runs on autopilot, which is exactly what I had in mind when I ran it last year, and I'm sure it's what keyzick had in mind this year also.

After a two year precedent, I do still like the idea of the fully independent, non-participating Commish. However, I would yield to the fact that getting a volunteer is already a somewhat difficult thing to ask, especially so when that volunteer is also choosing to sit out the year.

So I would not object to a participating Commissioner, as long as it isn't me.

If you decide you want a non-plaing commissioner, I might be willing. I would need to look a bit at everything as I know it is a bit different than Barnstormers and see if this relative non techie would be capable and what the timing is to see if I would have the time.
