2020 Tour Changes?

Anyone have ideas for changes?

How about a 24 team round, maybe a no DH round, and advanced injuries with no waiver $ loss.

How about making 60m the normal cap, because that's what a real baseball team is made of using the Strat salaries.

I would only ask for one change to be considered from last year's Tour, which I thought was very well run and quite enjoyable. I really like this element of the ATG Barnstormers Tour:

IV. Semi-Finals Leagues

After all 6 events are completed, the top 9 ranked tournament managers will receive a BYE and will automatically advance to the Championship League. The next 24 ranked players (#10-33) will compete in one of two 12-team Semi-Finals leagues, the two winners of which will advance to the Championship League. The next 24 ranked players after that (#34-57) will compete in a 24-team Semi-Finals league, the winner of which will be the last to advance to the Championship League.

This way of advancing teams to the FInals seems more equitable and also keeps more teams involved. And (not that you'd want to) but you'd also pick up the opportunity to participate in a 24 team league if you happened to fall into the #34-57 rank range.

Last year's #4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 teams through five rounds all were eliminated in the semis and had little to show for a fine five round performance. It should be tougher to make the finals if you were not even in the top 20 through five rounds.

I don't want to add administrative complexity, so if we choose to do exactly what we did last year, that'd be great, too. Let's get this thing going!

I would agree with Moodysix's assessment that the top players should be rewarded. However, I would propose exactly what he said, but with the caveat of only having 7 byes, not 9. Then the top TWO teams from each semi, and the one "at large" make up the last 5 teams in the finals. That way, you don't penalize very good semi teams who make their championship, but lose. The at-large idea is awesome. That may stop people from dropping out midway because they still have a chance (very small that it is) to make the finals. Kind of like a play-in game in the NCAA tourney.

Just an idea, but I agree with moodysix -- extremely well run last year, and I'm in even with no changes.

I like all of the aforementioned proposals. I have never been a fan of the $100M leagues, so I would prefer to see two $60M leagues, one with DH and one without.

Unctarheel: I agree with that. $60M leagues are more challenging, and probably show who is a better manager as well (which is probably why I finished 50th last year!)

Alternatively, maybe mix it all up this year:
1. $80M w/ DH
2. $80M no DH
3. $100M w/ DH
4. $60M w/DH
5. $60M no DH.

Then there would not be any repeat leagues. True test under several different scenarios? The "drop your worst" league was a great idea as well, because if someone is not strong in one type of league, and ends up sucking, then that can be dropped.

NOW, if I could drop 4 leagues, maybe I can make the playoffs this year????

Why would we want more $60m? It’s harder to make an $80m this year. I was thinking more $100m this year, and no $60M.
$60M is nothing like a major league team, some MLBs are over $200M and the salaries are not 3 1/3 times more than strat.
I suggest the following salaries for teams:

2x $80M
2x &100M
1x $120M

The above is more like I think we need this year and closer to an actual Major league team...not an All Start team which would be closer to $150 - $200+ million with Strat salaries.

Gilbo, I agree with you that it is difficult this year to make $80M teams.

However, you have to remember, what we have in 12 team leagues are essentially semi-all-star teams.

There are 30 teams in MLB, each having about 30 players who are rostered, and this is what Strat gives us (around 900 players give or take.)

So, in a 12 team league we are taking the top 300 players. No matter what, the realism is out the window. By moving the salary down to $60M, you expand the player pool, to where you can't ONLY take the top 300, you are expanding the pool of talent that has to be taken due to salary restrictions. This forces managers to evaluate more players, use more platoons, and manage pitching better. Isn't that what you want from the PC?

As I said before, I am fine no matter what is decided.
