2021 Tour: Actual or Imagined

Let's try this thread again, since I didn't see any resolution from cristano's previous attempt.

Having just looked over the Actual and Imagined card sets for the new season, I'm thinking we're going to want to use the Imagined card sets for a more realistic and familiar feel to the new Tour season. I thought at first that maybe I'd prefer the Actual sets, but the extremes of performance over the shorter 60 game timeframe did really lead to cards and pricing that are not very representative of what players are going to do over a 162 game season like we will be playing. It's going to seem gimmicky, kind of like what MLB felt like last year. I'd rather play a more normal card set and forget that last season was an unfortunate anomaly.

It'd be very helpful for us to agree quickly how we will proceed for the Tour, since I'm sure many of us are starting to want to break down one card set or the other. What are other people thinking, and can we make a decision on this soon?

The actual season is akin to an unleashed season writ large. Perhaps as we do with salary caps for some events, participants have a choice between an actual or unleashed league.

I think it makes sense to view the Actual set like Unleashed writ large. So many more fluke cards. And it would be fine to give the choice between Actual and Imagined in the first five rounds. It’s the semis and finals we need a decision on. Playing any kind of Strat baseball is of course “imagined,” but I think the Imagined set will look a lot more like real Strat baseball than the Actual set. But Actual seems to be trending a bit here early on. I’m not sure which set to analyze at this point.

Yes, I too agree that the Imagined set does look closer to a normal season, because 60 games played extended to the 162 game season doesn't create a realistic result. It is like having way to many fluke cards to deal with. Then we have to recalculate so much to know what a 162 result would look like. The Imagined set gives a more realistic feeling to 162 games.

i know i will get crushed for this, to be honest, id like to use both sets.

winning this thing takes a whole lotta skill, patience and luck......why not just add to that dynamic by using two sets :)

So like 60 no dh, 80 dh/no dh, 100 dh actual
then 60 no dh, 80 dh/no dh, 100 dh for imagined

as an atg big cap player, i have to admit 120 for 20xx sets is a bit much to spend

I agree with this. The 2020 season is what it is. Everyone is on equal footing here.

I know what you are saying... but it is funny when we think of what we are really doing with any Strat set, :? especially from baseball 2020! ;) We Are playing an Imaginary game, it doesn’t matter the set...

Actual set for me as well. I do not foresee myself playing the imagined set at all.

Ditto. I am way more interested in the actual than imagined.
