Hey guys, I just finished two new books with ties to the 70's. The first was "The Bird-The Life and Legacy of Mark Fidrych." The second was "Swinging 73-Baseball's Wildest Season." I highly recommend Swinging '73, particularly if you are were a fan of the Mets or A's. Those teams are most heavily documented. There were actually some stories I hadn't heard before in this fast-moving book.
I can't recommend "The Bird." The writing wasn't that good and there's just not that much interesting about Mark Fidrych outside of the short time he spent in baseball. To summarize, he grew up playing baseball, had a wildly successful year for the Tigers, hurt his arm, and went back home. Sad really. I was impressed by how he always stayed so upbeat. RIP Bird.
Anyway, you might want to consider these if you're looking for some 70's era reading.
