Pinch Hitters

PostMon Jun 23, 2014 3:09 pm

What can you learn from the way Hal uses pinch hitters? I think you can assume that if Hal pinch hits for a starter with a bench player the bench player may have a better card against whichever type pitcher you are facing, or that the pinch hitter is a positive clutch if it is a clutch situation. Sometimes you can find out you have a cheap bench player on his absolute best year if Hal keeps using him as a pinch hitter. Any thoughts?

The Mystery Game rocks! I can't even go back to regular SOM.

I think you covered all the possibilities, RB. Although if HAL is actually pinch-hitting for lesser clutch players, then he's sharper than I thought.

And I agree with you about the Mystery Games; they provide the most complete experiences in SOM. But don't give up on 20xx, I'd miss our bi-monthly draft leagues we've been having.

Welcome to the club. Regular strat is just plain boring.

HAL pinch hitting is a great way to determine if you have a dud in your lineup.

I don't know about anyone else, but I miss the days when HAL could set your lineups for you. :D

I agree. While I was pretty good at interpreting HAL's moves, it really defeated the whole idea of the mystery league. It's far more challenging now.

There's another possibility: in two out situations with runner(s) in scoring position HAL might pinch hit someone with a worse card than the regular hitter if the regular's card is littered with singles turned to outs because of his negative clutch. The negative clutch outs, in that situation, make the regular's card worse than that of the pinch hitter.
