Can anyone help diagnose willie Horton 60s card?

I m a newbie in a 60s mystery league. I’m in DC stadium which is a good homer park for righties. Willie has several # results. But he is hiiitng in low 200s with OBA below 300, well below his worst years. Rolls are about even. Drop him or keep him?

I would keep him. He might even have his best (68) card; it would be consistent with his results. Also, he is hitting his share of homeruns. One good thing about Horton is even his worst card isn't that bad. In fact cards 2-5 are pretty close to each other; only his best card (which he might have) stands out.

Furthermore, in an online $80 million cap league, you cannot expect a hitter to hit his average. The pitching he is up against is better than he faced in real life, so don't expect him to hit .270. (I'm not saying it can't happen, but odds are he won't.)

PS. I noticed he stole a base. Be sure to set him not to not steal in hitting preferences. Do this with all D and E base stealers. I even do this with most C base stealers.

I noted that Horton is hitting lefty pitchers considerably better than right pitchers, which would make me guess that you've got his 1968 (3L) season.

It's not really a theory. The fact is the typical major league team would be much closer to a $60 million cap. So $80 million cap teams (unless they are heavily slanted toward hitting) will have better pitching. Keep in mind also that in a mystery league, a pitcher who pitches poorly will be dropped and replaced by one who likely will have a better card.

If you've got 40 minutes of spare time check through every Wille Horton box score in which he made at least one out. If he fouled out against left-handed pitcher it's very possible it's not his 68 or 69 card. If he fouled out against right-handed pitcher it's not 65,67,68.


However, there may be uncommon ways to foulout depending on fielding chart results so you can't take it to the bank.
