Hello. My name is Rob, aka merkle 08 and I'm the commissioner of the Franchise Mystery League. If you're in the market for something different and also want to join an ongoing Strat-0-Matic league, then consider trying out the "FML".
We are a long-standing league (currently playing our 14th season) that blends the online 365 Mystery Card game with the Franchise League concept. We are starting a new rookie "Franchise Mystery League 2.0 - 1960s". Just log into the $80M league by using the code "GLGMJ" and check out the complete rules posted in the Description box on the league Standings page.
In a nutshell, here's how it works:
* We combine the Mystery Game with the Franchise League concept by counting how many "cards" each player has with each team in the league. For example, in the 1960s player set you know that Willie Mays has five possible seasons-- or five possible "cards"-- all with San Francisco. So in the FML Mays is a "5 card" Franchise player, reserved to the Giants. "4 card" and "3 card" Franchise players are also reserved to their primary franchise.
* At the same time, in the '60s set you may or may not know that Minnie Minoso has two possible seasons with the Indians, two possible seasons with the White Sox, and one possible season with the Senators-- what we call a "2/2/1 card" player. Point being, in our league a simple but different set of draft, waivers, and pickup rules apply to 2/2/1 card players like Minoso. Then you have your "1 card" and "0 card" players who are free agents and can be picked up by any team at any time.
* We hold a franchise draft before each season (previous season's worst team gets 1st pick, 2nd worst gets 2nd pick, and so on down to The Champ, who gets 12th pick), each franchise plays in its real-world ballpark, we vote on payroll, FA drop, DH rule, etc., and, last but not least, friendly banter is encouraged.
As you can see a big part of it is knowing your franchise history and the Mystery Card player sets from top-to-bottom. Our format makes it so each team maintains a high level of franchise identity while at the same time keeping all the cool features of the online Strat Mystery game.
There's more to it than this but if you're interested enough to find out, log in, drop me a line, and I'll get you started...
See you there,
& Regards,
Rob
