What's the best part of the game for you? (POLL--closed)

For me, the most fun and exciting part of SOM online baseball is putting together a team. While all the roles on the poll are fun, General Manager is clearly my top choice. However, I have wondered what others think. Thus, this poll!

I like the auto draft part and seeing who you actually get once the draft occurs, and then making the free agent selections to readjust my team. Once the season starts, I like to try and figure out what year card is playing to make changes if necessary. The auto draft reveal is almost as good as Christmas!

Drafting the team and pre-season management/roster tweaks is where the most fun comes from.
Having said that, it's pretty hard to beat the feeling you get when you team wins that elusive championship title.

I had 3 injuries in my 1st series, so I found out I have Jose Cruz's 2nd best card (1978) and Larry Stahl's worst card (1972, so he has been waived). Now if Ron Santo would get injured against a lefty I could figure out which year I have of him (either 71, 73, or 74, if it's 74 he is gone).

and I'll tell you the most frustrating part...finding out early that you have the player (Larry Parrish) on his best card and watching him play poorly all season long...finishing the season batting .265 with 24 HRs...playing in Fulton.

That's what is good about the Mystery game. The answer is pretty much only "A" in the 200x game.

For me its the day to day managing. Trying to set my pitchers (S and R) to best compete with my opponents likely line-up, given the ballpark. Deciding whether to change my line-up based on the ballpark, my opponent's likely pitching, and setting my strategy based on their pitcher, catcher and fielder's arms. Many times it comes down to playing my best players available, but there are times when I may go with a particular player because they do well in a certain ballparks and against certain pitchers. Love them 1 run wins.

Of course the draft is fun, and I do try to figure out which card my players are on. But when I drop and add it's usually about finding cards which provide the best odds of being able to fill a particular role [i.e. a low cost LH Specialist if that's what I need, or a vR hitter if my splits are not well balanced.] Basically I want the most options for dealing with the variety of teams y'all put together. [And, yes, sometimes that role is "anybody who is not on the worst year ever".]

If I didn't have a particular style that I like playing, I think I would enjoy it as much starting with random players and trying to figure out how to use them, with some tweaks to pull it all together.

BTW, durantjerry, I imagine day to day managing is something the 200x managers can do. Though I'm too old school to try.

Once the season begins I like to look for that marginal player on my team who's having his career year: Derrell Thomas, John Bocabella, Wilbur Howard, Kurt Bevaqua, Larvelle Blanks, Ross Grimsley, Lerrin Lagrow, Jesus Alou... where are they now?
When you've got a team that's struggling just to get to .500, you've got to find simple pleasures wherever you can. It's fun to plug these guys into a starting role or a platoon and watch them hit in the same lineup with Stargell, Simmons, Clemente...
