I've run keeper leagues like this in the past. I strongly recommend you pick 4 players for the first year. Otherwise, it isn't fair for whoever has lower picks in the first and third rounds. After the first year, you get three keepers.

I ran it this way:

Round 1: 1-12
Round 2: 12-1
Round 3: 1-12
Round 4: 12-1
Round 5: 12-1

I did reverse order for Round 5 since I think having early picks in the first/third rounds had a slight advantage even with a serpentine draft for four players (and a stadium).

I allowed the stadium pick to be made in any round. Having a 1-round supplemental pick after each season was also fun, but it isn't necessary to make it fair.

By the way, if you think drafting a stadium is just as important as any player (I don't), then disregard everything I said!

However, you do it, good luck with your league. Keeper leagues are fun.

Note: Just to be clear, I'm not signing up. Sorry!

Fantastic! The league is now full. We'll need to elect a commissioner and finalize the league rules. I liked Coyote's suggestions about serpentine draft and supplemental draft picks. What do you guys think about:

1. Drafting 4 players for the first season (keeping 3 at the end of the season)?
2. Drafting for unique stadium in 5th round?
3. One supplemental draft pick each season? (So you get your 3 keepers and then draft for one additional player each season. Perhaps the supplemental draft should go in reverse order of wins, so the team with the worst record gets to go first in the supplemental draft.)

What do you guys think?

Who wants to volunteer to be commissioner?

.. i like all the suggestions above ! .. good ideas .

.. meaning a "live" draft i suppose as well ? .. never done a live draft, but i'm not opposed to that at all !

.. whatever works, i'm in this for fun, and i'm very much looking forward to it ! ..

I like Jimbo's rules--the only caveat is that I would say that folks can draft their stadium in whatever round they like (although most will do it in the fifth round). I am okay with coyotes suggested draft order (with the 5th being flipped like that).

The Draft

PostSat Aug 07, 2021 7:32 pm

What do you guys think about handling the first 5 rounds of the draft over the message board here? Once everyone has picked their 4 players and unique stadium, we'll set up a private league. You'll be given the password. The remaining roster slots will be filled by auto draft. You'll insert your 4 players in slots 1-4 on your auto draft card along with your unique stadium. You'll then fill out the remaining slots with players you want that were not picked in the first 5 rounds of the draft. This is probably easier than trying to get everyone together for actual live draft, especially when we have mangers on both the east and west coasts.

And yes, you can select your stadium during any round of the first 5 rounds of the draft.

Are you guys in in agreement?

"You'll insert your 4 players in slots 1-4 on your auto draft "

I disagree, the 4 players draft must be rank at the end of your list….

Cabrera, you can't do it that way. Here's why: If you select a player that someone has already picked in the auto draft, you'll get the next available player at that position at the next highest price. That player could be a guy on another team because he was selected during the live draft. If you insert your 4 players at the top of your auto draft card, this problem will not occur because no one will pick your players in slots 1-4, since they know who you already chose in the initial draft.
If you place your 4 initial players in slots 1-4 on your auto draft card, the 5th slot is the equivalent of your first slot in the auto draft.

I have always put them at the bottom--the reason being is that it seems like one could game it if you don't (not put mine at the top, but place my desired player at the top to ensure I get them while everyone else is putting their first pick at #5). If we put them at the bottom, there is no way to game it in that manner. Accidents will happen (I forgot others' keepers) but that's on the person who forgets, not the person who drafted them as I will simply insist that my player is returned in exchange for the "next best" player.
