Lets goof off and have a fun discussion as we wait for others to pick.
Tell who your FAVORITE 5 players from the 3 eras we are drafting from. Not the 5 you think are the best...YOUR favorites (might be a mediocre player that you liked) and why. Then name the 5 you hated, and why.
For me I'll pick my favs:
I am a HUGE Cardinals fan so...
Andy Van Slyke. The BEST defensive outfielder I ever saw myself. (Dewey Evans was close, he was amazing and should be in the HALL) I saw a few games live, and his arm was better than Strat gives him credit for, -5 at least, and his range was ridiculous. And he was a great guy and played hard, a 5 tool player.
Ozzie Smith. Best glove man of ANY position ever. Was more valuable at SS than any other player was on offense and defense. Played hard and never took a day of, and had child-like enthusiasm.
Jim Edmonds Close to AVS's range and great arm. But his body control in diving for the ball was amazing. How is he not a[ 1 (-3)] ???
Cal Ripken not a great SS from just a mobility stand-point, but his positioning and cannon arm made him great. Plus, he signed EVERY autograph without an attitude. What sports stars should be.
Jack Clark Should've won 1987 MVP unanimously. Could hit a ball farther than anyone. Too bad he was brittle, but man he could hit dramatic shots. Game 6 of 1985 NLCS, WOW, saw it happen and went nuts.
HATED:
Barry Bonds...anti- Cal Ripken, and a cheater
Don Denkinger...yes he was an umpire, but he should burn.
Any NY Met. Have never picked one for my team until this draft with HoJo. Just hate them. Have K. Hernandez from an auto-draft that I relectantly kept
Keith Hernandez (yes he is included in above, but he deserves a special mention) he lied at the drug trial about the Cardinals players. He is odious.
Roger Clemens a cheater, and a nasty human being. He regularly showed attitude to fans, and was just a jerk. You make $5-25 million/yr, be friggin humble.
