divad's attempt to replace Dal Maxvill reminded me of a quote from Bob Gibson (from an ESPN article):

"I went to the mound once after he'd put a couple men on base," said Dal Maxvill, a 14-year major league veteran and the starting shortstop on the '68 Cardinals. "I started to say something to him, like, 'Things are fine.' He looked me right in the eye and said, 'Get out of here. The only thing you know about pitching is that it's hard to hit.'"

btw, Gibson was a better career hitter than Maxvill, Gibson BA .206; SLG .301; 24 HR; 144 rbi/1328 AB
Maxvill BA .217; SLG .259; 6 HR; 252 rbi/3443 AB

I never tried to replace Dal Maxvill as my starting ss. I wanted to pick up Groat as Dal's backup and my top pinchhitter, but those rum swigging Pirates Shanghaied him. I'm probably better off with LHRP Hal Woodeshick :D

(PS - Maxvill had a better batting average than Cepeda in 1968).

Two of Maxvill's six career homeruns were inside the park homeruns, so he only managed to hit four balls over the fence during his illustrious career.

7 teams loaded into league, only 1 more team for the Central.

"but those rum swigging Pirates Shanghaied him"
I have read that this scenario is exactly how the Pirates franchise got their nickname. They moved from Louisville to Pittsburgh just before the turn of the 20th century, and were known as the Alleghenies. A couple of years later, the Philadelphia team accused Pittsburgh of "pirating" a player away from them, and supposedly the name stuck.

Thanks for catching the Bobby Shantz drafting mistake. Like I said before, mistakes like that are going to happen in a franchise league, so the sooner we catch each other's goofs the better.
