Draft Strategy for a 24 Team 80s League

Anybody played in a 24 team 80s league to date? If so, what type of draft strategy should one employ? Go for the stud hitters and pitchers and most likely miss most if not all of them or draft the under the radar guys in the 12 team league that are usually sitting in the free agent pool high on your draft list? Thinking of joining Chompsky's 24 team league and was looking for advice.

I think a 24 team 80 mil 80s league is doomed for disaster.
The 80s has a very small player pool as is so 24 teams trying to fill out a 80 million roster is just asking for trouble. I guarantee there will be teams with no chance of winning anything before the season even starts.
The only way 24 teams will work in mystery card is with a 60 million roster, and even then there will be problems in the 80s game.
It worked pretty well in the one league I played in the 90s game, but nobody wanted to play it when I tried to get one going recently.

You may be right, but I had a credit sitting around and thought I'd try it. Hoping that the 24 team league will force a few more trades. It could be a long tough season for teams with bad injury reveals since there really won't be any free agents of value to add.

I am curious to know how it goes. I suspect teams with bad autodrafts will be unable to recover even in the preseason.
If you dont mind, please keep us posted here with your thoughts about how it's going/how it went.

Well, we are off to an inauspicious start. Or should I say we are not off. Looks like the league couldn't run the Auto Draft. This could be one of those cancel the league and refund the credit situations.

Thanks for your patience...
Our system has detected an issue with this league that has prevented the Auto-Draft from running. While rare, there are a number of possible issues that could exist, including a team having an improper player on its draft list, or having too much salary. We'll be investigating the cause of this delay, and should have a resolution probably with the next 24 hours. Thanks for your patience.

Wonder if its a problem will all teams able to meet a minimum salary? I am in the league as well and would be up for a 60 mil 24 if this doesn't go.

Curious as to what ever happened with this league.
Anyone have a link to their team to share?

http://onlinegames.strat-o-matic.com/team/818886Ducky and TRichardson are both in this league with me. It's been interesting. Once the draft and frenzy, there are only about a dozen position players and a dozen pitchers left over, mostly of the .75 variety. Actually, all but 2 players from the entire set have been used by someone at some point in the season (Steve Crawford and Chuck Rainey, congratulations). At least 3 players who I can think of (Valenzuela, Baylor, Gubicza) have played for 4 different teams, and there might be a couple more. There were more trades than the average league, though none which I can remember after the first 2 weeks of the season.
The most obvious lesson learned as far as draft strategy for these leagues: stock up on middle infielders and lefty relievers. One or the other was at the heart of just about every trade discussion I fielded or posed during the preseason, and I was one of the most active in that regard (I usually am, plus my team turned out to be not very good).
I would agree that hearing feedback from some of the other guys in this league would be interesting.
