Does Hal know which card it has?

I had a situation where I had 2nd and 3rd with 2 outs, and, facing a RHP. HAL it intentionally walked a right handed batter to get to a lefty, who is often better. The lefty has a lot of walks, and the bases were now loaded, so the only way that could make sense is if the first hitter has one of his best 2 years, and the lefty has one of his worst 2 years. Does HAL know this and act accordingly, or does it use some sort of formula based on the pitcher's split as well? (the pitcher has a 1L average split, but has some years where he's quite a bit better vs lefties).

I'm new to the mystery card format, so any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

I am by no means an expert but there is another possible scenario. If the guy he pinch hit for was on a negative clutch year and the pinch hitter was on a positive clutch year that could be another reason for Hal's decision. Hal DOES know what year he is working with and I often try to glean information from his pinch hitting decisions. Good luck!

Awesome, thanks for your input. What about for relievers? It seems to be favoring this cheaper reliever I have over a guy who costs more (for non save situations). I would assume that would mean he's better, have people found this to be the case?

Thanks!

That is also a good question. Part of that depends on how your bullpen settings are set up. However, if Hal is using one reliever more often in tight situations I think that means that cheaper reliever he is using is probably on a good year. Again, I am by no means an expert but I am a long time CD-ROM and on-line player and I have seen the computer manger (or Hal) in action in tens of thousands of games.
