24-team leagues

PostMon Jan 13, 2014 10:15 pm

Has a 24-team 80's league ever been tried or are there just not enough player cards to make it feasible?
267 pitchers + 381 hitters = 648 total players
The draft alone would use up 240 pitchers and 360 hitters.
Not much left in free agent pool (27 pitchers, 21 hitters).
Just thought it might be interesting to see every player in the set get used in the same season.
Maybe it would lead to more trades!

I was in 2 24-team leagues, and 1 of them was with the 80s set. It is a very different dynamic: there are not a lot of players left over for the free agent pool, that's for sure. If you are a manager who likes trades, you would love a 24 team 80s league: you absolutely have to try trades to improve your team.. I liked it and would do it again even though my team was terrible.

To give you an idea of how few players are left over: I believe that between the 24 of us, every player except 2 got used during the course of the season (Chuck Rainey was one, and I think Steve Crawford the other).
