well good luck all, though i had a chance, until my 60s team collapsed, 70s team got hammered, and 80s/90s are statistically perplexing

1707 rolls on hitters cards, 1571 on pitchers (this s my 90s pitching staff)

My 60s team (league 8) was 2 down on the last day, I had the tiebreaker over the team in front of me. It was a tall order but if I could have gained the 2 games I would have made the wild card. Fortune would have it that the team in front of me got swept by the first place team. Misfortune would have it though, that I got swept by the 4th place team. A golden opportunity for an improbable comeback slipped out of my hands. After season reveals also show that I made some pretty terrible moves in season. I was lucky to be where I was, but still frustrating.

Your whining should've led to a first round sweep!

....won 3-1 first round against best team in the league

truly stumpified by this and how much it happens....

as i am sure everyone else is (but no body can seem to get the right description to these "statistical never should happen, but seem to happen all the time" instances.)

It's just a small sample size, having a 5 or 7 game series. Even a great team probably only has a 55-60% chance of winning a series because you are playing another good team (not sure it can be quantified).

I think that is a very accurate assessment. One should also keep in mind that, sometimes, regular season records are a little overblown. If a good team ends up in a division with 3 middling to weak teams, and another team in a different division wins 15 less games, but was in a division with 3 other better than average teams... who's to say which team is really better?

I am in the Finals of 70s league after going 86-76 in the regular season, including losing my last 5 games in a row and making what looked like a virtual wild-card lock into a nail-biter. My first-round matchup was against a 100-win team: a very solid team, but a team I had done OK against during the regular season (5-7, only a -6 run differential). I did end up winning the series in 5 games. I attribute a good part of that to luck and good fortune... but I did have a +67 run differential on the season (3rd best) so my team wasn't exactly chopped liver. Additionally, the team I beat did have a +184 run differential, but he was also in a division with 2 of the worst offenses in the league per runs scored, whereas my division had a 78-win team in last place, and 4 of the top 6 offenses in runs scored.

Again, I got somewhat lucky and beat a very good team... but sometimes those extra 12 games against your divisional team can skew records and statistics a little if you are fortunate in your divisional assignments.

wow, so i get through the first round and win 3-1.....win game 1, lose game 2, win game 3, lose game 4.........game 5 i see Hal take out my pitcher after 5 innings (even though hes throwing a 5 hit, no walk shut out) to put in my mop-up guy.

Starter had quick hook, max 7 (yet was removed at f9, in the 5th, while throwing a shut-out). i have all 5 rp set on specific roles, ray being on mop-up.....laroche on middle man, my 3 best RP pitchers on set-up (2) and closer. plenty of rest, everyone was available.

and of course, gave up 2 in the 6th, 2 in the 8th to lose....and probably lost the series right here. (cant forget busky, 2 era, 1 whip in the season gave up the other 2 runs...)

this on top of the other shit. come on......it is like a never ending wave of bull shit. one thing happens, then the next, then the next, then the next.....

i feel really bad that you beat my better regular season team in the first round without clemente only to lose in the finals. i'm sure everyone else is sad too. i'm sure you're the only one on the boards that has lost in the finals.
