Mystery Tour Thanks and Thoughts

I want to say thank you to everyone in the mystery tournament especially the organizers. It has been fun and frustrating as only the mystery cards can be.

My 60s team started awesome faded and missed the playoffs by a game. In the mystery world there is nothing worst than a fast start. Other teams get better and you stay the same.
My 70s team were champions so nothing to say there.
My 80s team could hit but I never had any luck with my starting pitching. Came close, but no cigar.
My 90s team did not come on until the last quarter of the season. Too late to be anything more than a spoiler.

Good luck to those that will be in the championship round you deserve it. Going all the way in this thing takes a lot of skill and just maybe a little luck.

I want to thank EVERYONE who participated in the tourney.
Especially all those that helped get the leagues filled.
I think considering the size of the tourney and the number of managers participating, it went very well. (Though a few leagues came really close to not filling)
Thanks to those that filled in as well.

I asked Strat if they could put together a special 4 pack of teams for purchase for the next go around. It would be used for the 4 rounds of the tourney ONLY. This way we can get MOST of the managers to commit to the 4 rounds. (They liked the idea, and are considering it for the next go around)

My 60's team finished 83-79. Got solid pitching all year. But .414 SLG as a team just didn't cut it.
My 70's team finished 81-81. Got decent pitching , but again.405 SLG just didn't help.
My 80's team finished: 72-90. I never have any luck in the 80's format. Got the SLG up to .475, but no pitching this time.
Finally my 90's team finished 85-77. Got a little pitching and a little hitting but it wasn't enough...

Oh well, as a Mets fan for 40+ years, I've learned 1 thing. There's always next year... and 1986 is a distant memory...

Visick thanks for organizing the tourney. It was fun and challenging playing against so many skilled participants. The large amount of sign ups bodes well for making this an annual thing. I was a little disappointed in the prizes. Considering how much extra business you drummed up for Strato they could have been more generous.

My undoing was trying to go with a power hitting team in the 60s. What was I thinking? My other teams made the playoffs, which included a 90s power pitching team that went 81-81 (again what was I thinking).

Great job

It seems my two "extra" teams tended to fair better than my authorized entries - go figure.

I excelled at drafting or grabbing players sporting their 4th or 5th best years.

In some cases, I had players on two different teams reveal their two worst cards. Sadly, it took me to the season' send to figure it out.

In one league, I was 20+ games over .500 only to pull a face plant two feet from the finish line. It pained me to watch this team dominate only to become everyone's beotch

One area of improvement

Start the following season after the prior season reached game 81. At one point, I had two teams in the same day waivers and four teams to manage (or dis manage)

Overall - great job.

The problem with spreading out the 4 teams would be that by the 80s or 90s league there would be many people stop participating if they thought they were already out of contention. I can understand the need to start all of them pretty close together just for this reason alone.

This is a great question for Mighty Moose with his ATG barnstormer tour.

Frankly I was upset by my last team, as well as by my overall performance. Three of my four teams started well, only to end up with no playoff entries. 60's we faded and stayed out; but 70's was in in until the last games were played. 1 game back in the WC chase going into the final series . . . won two, but the WC leader swept, so no dice. My 90's team was in control of its destiny in the last series . . . going against our division leader (we were just one game back) with a one game WC lead, we just needed to win two games to be practically assured a playoff spot. Well, we only won one game. The team trailing us in the WC won two, making us tied . . . they had beaten us in the season series 7-5, so no playoffs for me. So out of three teams that looked like playoff possibilities, no playoffs, and two last-day losses (including the 90's heartbreaker). 80's . . . we were bad from the start, though I had great hitting, my pitching was just terrible.

The other frustrating thing was going back for some of the injury reveals, and seeing how far off some guys were. I dropped Moe Drabowski because he was sporting a 5.57 ERA and 10 BS in 39 IP . . . only to learn he had his '66 card with a .95 WHIP. Dropped Winfield in the 90's with a .578 OPS through 149 ABs; and yup, had his best card, '92 with a .868 OPS . . . several others similar to this made it very frustrating. Mystery cards have always been better to me than ATG, but there have frequently been issues like this. I think I finished 77th overall. So next time it comes up, I think I'll be a no.

Thanks for putting this together and glad to have had the chance to play together with you all, hope to see you in another league in the future.
