Where's all the speed in the 60s?

Obviously it was a different game back then so SB totals are way off compared to other sets, but only 14 1-17 runners? (compared to 43 in the 70s and 49 in the 80s) . . . seems odd to me.

Yeah, in the 60's, it's kind of Wills, Brock...and a few other guys. There really is a dearth of burners...as opposed to other leagues and seasons (the 80's is loaded). However, since you can assume your league won't be loaded with speed teams, you can do quite well without running that much yourself.

For example, here is one of my playoff 60's teams, and it had a monumental sb total of 3:

This is one of the major reason I am not a fan of the 1960s. I don't believe the 1950s are much better and I refuse to play anything pre World War Two because it was an exclusive game back then, if you weren't so called, "white" you couldn't play. I think all pre World War Two records should come with a GIANT asterisks. ... The 1980s was definitely a golden era and we seem to be returning to that type of era now, since steroid use has curtailed.

Interesting take on that, I appreciate your candor! :)

Remember there was no astroturf until the mid 60's and artificial turf didn't catch on until the 1970's cookie cutter ballparks. This is a factor.
