Strat-O-Matic Baseball 365

Howdy,

For my current team I decided to give OBP high priority, even for the middle infield positions. We're talking 70s here. I landed Don Kessinger, whose doing very well and drafted Davey Lopes. Lopes is a "3" at 2nd base and normally I'd never consider him because of it.
After 89 ABs Lopes is hitting .270, OBP of .320 and a .634 OPS in the Astrodome. Note: We've several "bomber" parks in our league. Lopes is also scoring runs, but I'm having second thoughts..should I dump him for Dick McCauliffe or perhaps Felix Milan-players I often have instead of Lopes? Please weigh in with YOUR thoughts on Davey Lopes.

PS: It appears Lopes is having his '75 card; his second-worst.

I'm pleased with Dave's 1974 card.

I use Horace Clarke as Dave's sub.

I think it depends on Lopes' year. Because of his stealing ability, Lopes is a good fit in the Astrodome. McAuliffe is not a good fit in the dome - he won't get the bp hrs and he hits for low BA. So, I'd probably stick with Lopes and try to get the most out of his stealing; but it also depends on his year whether I'd keep him.

Tonight's injury reveal seems to indicate Lopes' worst card- 1973. He's still injured. Probably time to investigate Felix Milan or...Thanks for all the replies; SOM's a ball!

Davey's 1973 card still is a decent roster piece.

I almost never use Lopes, 70s or 80s. It's not just because of the defense, it's because of how lefty-leaning he usually is. But I admit, unless I am planning to use a platoon, I am biased against extreme tilts, and I am very big on up-the-middle defense.

I agree with the above post. I think you can win with a 3 at 2B but it is a little harder to do. Also, Lopes is a little overpriced in my opinion.

I strongly agree with Conndor and Radagast. I rarely use Lopes because of 1) his 3L, 2) his D and 3) his price. I would choose Milan over McAuliffe in the Dome.

I forgot about the Astrodome part of the equation. Millan would be a better choice than McAuliffe there: I have always liked Millan a lot in the 70s.

I'll also throw out 2 names who might also still be available as backup plans. If you are OK with using a "3" at 2B but still want some offense, how about Tony Taylor? He's a more balanced hitter, he doesn't steal bases but still runs the bases well, and he still hits for average. If you want better defense and still want or need a lefty leaning hitter, how about Manny Trillo? 3 pretty good offense cards, also runs the bases well even though he doesn't steal, and solid defense.
