Who do you take #1 in a snake draft? (forget what stadium)

I could tell you but then I would have to ....you. No seriously, it depends on what type of team you like to build. You really can not go wrong if there is a salary cap. Is there a salary cap?

You could take Orel Hershiser, Eric Davis, Kirpy Puckett, Rickey Henderson, Robin Yount, Roger Clemens, Cal Ripken, Ryan Sandberg, Mike Schmidt, George Brett and many others and not go wrong if there is a salary cap.

If there is NO salary cap (which is not a good way to play the 80s) take one of the top two pitchers or Brett, Davis or Yount. If there IS a salary cap, you can take pretty much anyone and it will not be a bad play.

Yount and Brett are generally the most popular first picks (or they used to be when I did live drafts). Clemens, Schmidt or Henderson are very close.
cant see picking any other player first. I could see someone picking Hersheiser ahead of Henderson or Rains ahead of Clemens based on their personal preference, but I couldnt see picking Hersheiser over Clemens, Rains over Henderson, Guerrero ahead of Schmidt or Ripken over Yount, etc...

Again it heavily depends on what kind of cap they are using. There are lots of players that could be smart picks with an 80 million dollar salary cap. Yes, those players I and Adam Katz listed are the most popular but when I have had the first pick in a 1980s Mystery League I did not take any of those guys and I have had a great deal of success in the 1980s.

George Brett is a good pick for any park. I am assuming there is a salary cap in your league?

Personally, I would much rather have the 12th and 13th pick instead of the 1st and 24th. Although in two of the three leagues I've been in the team with the #1 pick ended up in the finals (70's Bench, 80's Trammell)

I feel the same. The league before this one I had the 12th pick, much easier to fill the roster. I am a Royals fan and had to stick by George.

Based on the landslide MVP award of a league I just finished, Mike Schmidt must deserve serious consideration.
