Ivan Calderon 80's

PostSun Mar 13, 2016 1:51 pm

I'm not trying to say the game isn't realistic, usually the stats match fairly well and to me that is what makes the mystery game so fun is trying to find what year you have, but at times you hit such strange years, in the middle of the season, how do you know what you have???
I just played the 80's and Ivan Calderon finished with 42 HR's in 407 AB, he hit .265 BA, .351 On base, .631 slug for .983 OPS, I assumed it was his best year, I batted him clean up vs left and right pitchers often, and finished with the best record in the league (ok, I was playing in the kingdome).
Season ends and I find out it was his worst season, where in reality he hit 14 HR in 264 AB, hit .212 BA, .302 On base, .424 slug for .726 OPS.
I'm glad it worked out well this time but like everyone else, I've had great seasons where players could do nothing, I've just never had someone over perform to such a high level.

Each Strat season is like a large statistical sample of a player's card - except it's greatly complicated by the noise of the simultaneous (and inseparable ) sampling of other players' cards, with little or no way to tease the results apart.

But even if you were only sampling your own players' card (which you aren't), the bell curve in sampling results tells us that extreme sampling results are always possible (at the thin leading and trailing edges of the bell curve).

If this weren't the case, the fun of this game would largely disappear! It's the anticipation of following your team and players (each game, if it's your favourite team and favourite players, and if you're a STRAT nerd like me!).

It's a big reason why we're hooked on this game - we know it's realistic, but there's always that hope that your team will...

Love this game!
