new 60s theme league - 1 forced trade - 8 more spots to fill

PostTue Jul 26, 2016 2:37 pm

I am going to try to get a theme league going having the following rules: 60s, 80 mil, no DH, normal waivers, normal rules for the preseason and regular season with one exception. After the autodraft has been run, each team can offer a trade to another team in their division, and that team must accept the trade. The trade must offer 3 players and receive 3 players. You must keep the 3 players that you have been offered for the entire season; however, you may keep them on the bench. You may keep or cut any of the 3 players that you receive. Here's an example, let's say that Team A's autodraft included Tommy Helms, Johnny Callison, and Mickey Lolich; Team B's autodraft included Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, and Sandy Koufax. After the autodraft but before waivers are run, Team A offers Helms, Callison, and Lolich to Team B for Mays, Aaron, and Koufax. Team B must accept this trade and must keep Helms, Callison and Lolich on their roster all season.

Details for making this work. The offered trade must be legal (in other words, HAL will be able to execute the trade, so you have to make trades within the salary cap, etc.). The league will fill on a Wednesday, so anyone signing up should be available on Thursday for the trades which occur after the autodraft is run but before waivers are run. Since this is a no DH league, your offered trade cannot include more than one hitter that is limited to playing only the same position (for example, you can't offer a trade with 3 players that can only play 1st base); however, you can offer up to 3 pitchers. Trading partners will be assigned based on waiver order and all forced trades will occur within the same division. For example, suppose the waiver order has the 4 East division rivals at positions 2, 7, 8, and 11. Then the team at position 2 will offer a trade to the team at position 7; 7 to 8; 8 to 11; and 11 to 2. Once a player has been involved in a forced trade, he cannot be involved in another forced trade. In the example above, once Aaron is traded to Team A, then Team C cannot offer a forced trade for Aaron. No trading is allowed prior to the forced trades.

I got this idea from the card game hearts which also allows you to "shoot the moon" which allows you to win if you lose every hand. I was going to offer 2 credits to any team that finished with 50 or fewer wins, but I couldn't figure a way to do that without screwing up competitiveness for the teams competing for the wild card.

This one should be right up Jimmy_C's alley since his drafts always suck. :D

I'll just point out the obvious that the main strategy here is to saddle a division rival with 3 overpriced, bad players.

If this league doesn't show more interest by Wednesday, I'll withdraw it.
