Wes Parker...70's

Anybody have much success with Wes Parker at 1b in the 70's set....I have to admit I have drafted him a few times only to drop him before the season started because I was looking for that big bopper at 1b....I am currently in a league where I drafted him and kept him....wasn't looking for the big power guy as I'm playing in the huge Oakland collisuem. We are 45 games into the season and he is absolutely fantastic....at present he is batting .320 with a .427 obp...placed in the #2 hole he is constantly on base and has just been great....from an injury I know he is not on his good year and he is playing above his card right now, but I'll take what I'm getting every time. I was always reluctant to spend over 5 mil on a 1b with no power....never again...in the right park he is dynamite...he was one of my favorite players of that decade and I'm loving the year he is having.... anyone else had success with him?

Wes Parker was one of your favorite players from the 70s? I was a big baseball fan in the 70s and I don't remember Parker. What made Wes Parker one of your favorites? btw, I have never played Wes Parker in SOM and rarely see anybody pick him up in the 70s.

Don't remember exactly the numbers but he was one of the hitting stars for the Dodgers in 65' world series against the twins...he had his best year offensively in 1970 I believe batting .319....he was always the best defensive first baseman of his day and is a member of the...major league ALL TIME Gold glove team...surprised you never heard of him...that's ok...I'll take him...lol

I always liked Wes Parker, my 1st Strat set was 1971 and he had a productive card(and let's not forget that appearance on the Brady Bunch) I've tried him a few times in a large stadium & have had no luck at all. I'm stickin' with Nate Colbert!

I took him in a current league on a lark because I didn't have a lot to spend and his D was good, and I've been very pleased. After 132 GP (511 AB) he's only got 5 HR, but he's batting .352 with an OPS of .936 and 57 2B. Obviously I've got his 1970 card. I doubt that I'd pick him again though because it's by far his best card, and aside from 1969 vs. LHP there's quite a drop-off with his other seasons. Besides, as has already been mentioned, there are lots of better 1B options out there.

My first champion season featured Parker on his '72 card. Not a single homer, but he was a large part of the success. Scored a lot of runs (well, relative to the team) and helped my pitchers.

I've highlighted the stats where he excelled.

I don't care what a guy's numbers are, if I find out he is on his worst card I will dump him immediately . I have done this before with my absolutely favorite player in a set.
