Real World - what do you think of the new rules?

PostWed Jun 24, 2020 12:02 pm

So, in real world baseball, we're going to see a 60 game season with a DH in the national league and extra innings start with a runner on 2nd. What do you think?

I don't care for any of it. I guess DH in the NL is ok. I've always liked the differences between the two leagues. The man on 2b thing is a gimmick. We can't tolerate long extra inning games anymore? I guess this season will be an experiment.

I'm skeptical about this season happening at all. With the way Covid is running rampant throughout the US, I can't imagine there not being major setbacks. I hope I'm wrong.

I don't like the extra inning rule because it messes with the integrity of statistics.

The idea that a pitcher is charged with an earned run he might not normally deserve or a batter gets credited with an RBI he might not normally deserve doesn't sit well with me. I'd rather accept tie games after 10 or 11 innings, although I'm not sure of the motive for the rule change.

I'm sure Strat hates such a rule change and I suspect it won't be implemented into their game next year.

Absolutely hate the extra inning rule. If a manager cannot manage a game properly to where he runs out of pitching by the 10th, 11th or 12th inning that should reflect poor management. Managers in today's game change pitchers at a whim. I have never really understood pulling a pitcher after one or two outs or one good inning. If a pitcher is getting hitters out, let them pitch. Starting with a runner on second base ruins the integrity of the game and allows managers to use as many of their relief pitchers in nine innings since a game will likely not last more than an inning or two with a runner starting out at second base.

could care less about MLB. They blew a golden opportunity to expand their fan base this summer by harping over money. The most socially distanced team sport couldn't get their stuff together.

I think it is great. It is about time the National League stepped into the 21st Century. Sorry but watching a pitcher bat is like watching a high schooler trying to hit big league pitching, there is nothing redeeming about it.

Am I surprised no one likes it here? No, old people don't like to see change, it makes them uncomfortable.

I can't say I blame you one bit... Just curious for your reason behind your decision, if you are willing to discuss. Thanks.

You bring up an excellent point when it comes to baseball being safer than the other sports. I am curious, do you blame the owners, the players, or both? Thanks for any insight.

MLB has announced that if the runner on 2B scores it is NOT an earned run for the pitcher. They will treat it as if the runner got on base on an error. However it still is an RBI for the hitter.

The reason for this is that the current commissioner is obsessed with speeding up games and this is just another thing to do just that. He thinks shortening games by a few minutes will bring back fans that have left because they think the game is too slow and boring. I don't agree with all of his tricks to shorten games but I do like t he new rule that makes RP stay in the game for at least 3 batters or the end of the half inning. All those RP changes, especially in September when they have expanded rosters, is tedious.
