What card is used?

PostSat Dec 19, 2020 10:03 am

Hi, I'm new to all of this. It's not easy to search so posting a new question (although I'm sure it's ben answered somewhere). For the 70's, 80's and 90's leagues, how does an owner know which card is being used? For example, Don Mattingly had some amazing years in the 80's and one or two less than amazing years. How will I know what statistics or cards will be used when deciding if I should draft him? Thanks so much in advance!

When you draft Mattingly (or any other player) you won't know which card you're getting. (It will be one of the 5 years listed.) That's the "mystery" in a mystery league.
Once the season starts, you have to figure out whether you got a good card or a stinker. The challenge (and fun) lies in deciding how long to hang onto a player who's underperforming-- did you get a bad card, or is it just a fluke? And the link tdkearns posted above teaches you some tricks to narrow down which card you have.

This helps a lot. It seems to take a lot of the GM out but adds a "detective" skillset to the game.

In a single-season league, you can basically set up your team before the start of the season and forget them. (I know there are a lot of micromanagers out there who would disagree!) However, in a mystery league, the fun is just beginning when the season starts. Sometimes determining a player is simple science, such as when an injury reveal tells you exactly which season a player is on. Other times, it's more of an art.

Here's another forum thread I'm partial to since I'm the author!
