Strat-O-Matic Baseball 365

If you read the Wish List subforum, you know I want to see a handful of players from the 60s repriced. Some players never get used because their salary is too high for the cards they have. I am going to take it a step further and send specific requests for salary adjustments to SOM, but I need your help! If you're familiar with the 60s player set, which players would you re-price? Of the players I list below, which would you re-price differently from what I propose?

Please limit your own lists to less than 12 players. Once I get some feedback, I'll come up with a single list to send to SOM, asking them to update the pricing on players. Also, note I did not put any pitchers on my list although some no doubt could have been listed, so feel free to suggest them too.

Come on, guys. Am I the only one who would like to see guys like Landis, Green, and Parker get used? The 60s set could certainly use a few more players.

If you play a lot of 60s, please at least comment on the price changes I propose.

Every mystery card set probably has 10-20% of the cards seriously mispriced. Probably the worst set is the 80s (the 1st mystery set, which has never been repriced). For the 60s, 1 defense is typically very overpriced -- probably half the 1 defenders should be adjusted down some (e.g, Landis, Agee & Parker). There aren't a lot of huge underpriced guys in this set, maybe some of the $1-$2m relievers and probably some of the 2 defense SSs (Wills is just 1 example). Given the decade, there normally is an abundance of good pitching options at most price ranges, while certain other positions (e.g., 2nd & SS) maybe have only 12 or so decent, fairly priced options.

I only play the 60s anymore, but I'm sure you're right. However, if that's the case, then someone really familiar with a particular set could do the same as I am trying to do.

However, to have a reasonable chance to get SOM to look at this set (i.e., the 60s), I'm still hoping to get some kind of consensus with other veteran 60s managers. Repricing the players I propose would give more variety and make the player set more interesting. I'm at least hoping for some feedback on my proposed salaries.

I don't disagree with any of the players you've suggested. Johnny Callison is probably he worst of the bunch. At the other end maybe Dick Green isn't so bad where he is just because of 2B scarcity.

There are a few others that I think are way overpriced and not used as well:
Johnny Romano - $5.95 is probably $.75 too high
Tony Perez @ $6.39 has a couple of seasons that are simply unusable at almost any price. $5.5M might be better.
Donn Clendenon is great as a 1B platoon vs. LHP, but not for $5.63M. Somewhere between $4.25 and $4.5 might make more sense.
Another 1B I came across is Ed Bouchee. He's $5.99M, and if you look at Strat's own stat history he averages 156 AB. I have no idea how much he'd have to drop to be considered by more teams.

Anyway, that's just a few. I also have to echo hallerose's comments about the 80s. There need to simply be more players, and pricing, especially for the batters, is in need of a major overhaul. That's where Strat's efforts need to focus first.
Consider this chart, showing the number of Pitcher cards/Batter cards/Batter cards between $1M and $2M by decade:
60s - 271 / 376 / 59
70s - 293 / 427 / 66
80s - 267 / 381 / 11
90s - 334 / 499 / 92
Despite the fact that there are more MLB teams in the 80s than in the 70s, there are 72 less player cards. And although it's not the only problem with the set's pricing, having only 11 batters priced between $1M and $2M illustrates the problems best.
Worth noting is that the rate of increase in number of players from the 70s to the 90s is very consistent with the increase in number of MLB teams between the 2 decades, (just over 13%).

Here is a wonderful thread from several years ago that discusses, among other things, 80s missing players and repricing. It's honestly disappointing that the 80s game is almost 20 years old, and not a single player has been added or repriced.

Thank you for your feedback. I'll tweak my numbers a bit and add your names to my list with one exception: Romano. I actually pick him for most of my teams because I do think he's worth it! However, if any others agree with you, I'll reconsider; I'd love to see his price come down a bit!

My 2 cents…. I might consider Landis if he was around 2.00 or less… might consider… I’d still take Mickey Stanley.

Also, Lou Brock is my all time favorite player, so I’m sorely disappointed that he didn’t his 1968 or 69 cards. Makes no sense…
