Bennett vs all LH lineup

PostTue Oct 23, 2012 8:08 am

I have a team in division that's all LH hitters. I'm in Griff 41, so no HR#. I have Kaat and Langston already, but also the .89 Caldwell. Looking for advice on whether or not to carry the 1.91 Bennett to just start against a single team?

Yay or nay on Bennett

Thanks.

If this is a salary-capped league, then I would say definitely NO. That $2M can almost assuredly be spent elsewhere.

At best you get 8 starts out of Bennett and 8 fewer starts from Caldwell - if the team would go 2-6 with Caldwell starting and 6-2 with Bennett starting you come out with +4 in the win column. So could that 1.91 produce 4 or more wins used in another way? Probably.

Also if you have other teams in the league that will start 7 or 8 lefty hitters - Bennett is set for a few more starts and the 1.91 price becomes more worth the money. It does depend on the salary cap and where you would use the extra 1.91 in the lineup.

The extra value of using Bennett as a lefty in the bullpen when not starting is probably quite small.

Thanks guys, it's $60M, so money is an issue. Wagner hit the FA wire for me to grab, Bennett is gone.

Too bad, I played softball against him in Oregon many moons ago.
