I think that would be Ok, but I would suggest going 5 rounds before starting to draft replacement players, so the order goes in reverse order from round 1. And yes, that would give me the first pick of replacement players.

However, I think there is a really good possibility that I will be missing thhe 3 best players in my team before I can pick, which is fine because thats the way it goes. But in light of that I think it's more fair to draft reverse order for replacements.

MS is right as is Bernie. As best I can tell, I only have 4 players that are common to other teams - and only one team each. Two of them are bit players. The other 20 are untouchable. The first 5 rounds you have to draft from your team, the next 10 are optional - as long as you satisfy the requirements according to the rules that Bernie has laid out.

If this is what you are saying Bernie, I'm all for it. No need to draft on DD if it's a waste.

MSer: Good catch. Under the current set of rules, free agents/replacements cannot be drafted until round 16. The reason for that was to give those at the bottom of the first round Diamond Dope draft for resolving competing claims the early free agent/replacement picks. I meant to do the same thing with the proposed 15 round Diamond Dope draft, but calculated the round incorrectly.

I've edited my previous post to provide that the free agent/replacement player draft would start in round 5 of the proposed 15 round Diamond Dope draft.

Bill, you succinctly hit the nail on the head. So many rounds of the DD draft merely to draft "untouchables" in the later rounds are indeed "a waste".

Given all of the managers' rosters, I just ran a quick mock draft, and this thing would be over in just over 3 rounds, and for all intents and purpose the draft would really be over after 2 rounds (a few sub $1M guys to haggle over in Round 3).

I think we have a two round draft on the ILC board and auto-draft the rest. That should be the fastest solution. If you want to add a few more rounds for managers to openly select replacements / new players to their original non-championship rosters, then we can increase it to 4-8 rounds. Either way, don't know if we need to use DD.

it would be really cool if one of you guys could post a link to one of your teams after the live-draft is done. i would be interested in seeing how successful some of you were in recreating your teams. thanks.

Steven: I don't think anyone will escape unscathed with the exact same team.

Most of us could probably participate in this league many times over and not run out of teams to redo.

If we do a rerun redo and not everyone re-ups, why not join and see the results first hand?

I'll post a link in this thread to the league once the season starts.

I think AeroDave's proposal makes a lot of sense; I haven't looked extensively at the rosters but it seems there is far less overlap than one would think, so if we could accomplish it with just the individual league chat and the auto draft that would be fine.

Seems sensible to have a short ILC draft followed by autodraft.

My preference is for an 8 round draft, in order to account for upgrades/ replacements. I agree with Motherscratcher's suggestion that free agents should be eligible after an odd- numbered round, so as to offset the advantage for teams picking early. I suggest that free agents should be eligible after round 3.

For me, a large part of the fun is strategizing for the draft, which is minimized with having just 2 rounds for jointly-owned players.
