BUSCH MEMORIAL STADIUM

THIS IS BUSCH MEMORIAL STADIUM, home of the Cardinals from 1966-2005. Not including new Busch Stadium, which opened in 2006, or Sportsman's PArk, which August Busch renamed Busch Stadium (although the name didnt stick.
On a side note, Busch wanted to rename Sportsman's "Budweiser Stadium", but then Commissioner Ford Frick vetoed the name because of public relations concerns over naming a ballpark after a brand of beer----an ironic stance, given all baseball clubs' significant revenues from beer sales. However, the Commissioner could not stop Busch from renaming it after himself, and so he did.
Anyway, I digress.................

These pics always remind me (at the risk of repeating myself, or this story, which - at my age, you're allowed that license)
of the 1966 All-Star game which was held in brand-new Busch Stadium in the blistering July heat of St. Louis that summer.
Jay Randolph, who still does talk-radio here in St. Louis, was interviewing Casey Stengel (who was in uniform, probably as an honorary coach or something similar, because I don't think Casey was managing at that time). Anyway, jubilant Jay was asking Casey: "Well, Casey - what do you think of this brand new ball-park we have here in St. Louis?" The Ol' Perfessor, looking around while standing there in his old 100% cotton flannel uniform in the 100 degree temperature of mid-day (which they stated translated into more than 110 degrees on the field) replied "Well.....it certainly holds the heat well!"
