"OFF-SEASON" League Chat (ATG Post WW II)

Let's hear from each other for any reason, but certainly when something unique, unlikely, amazing, etc occurs.

In my division there are two of us with the same Ballpark, and we both tried to draft several of the same players. It is basically two mirror teams that are going to end up playing each other 24 times this year.

The one other thing I want to note for now that is wierd is how few stolen bases there are so far in this league. It is remarkable.

I-Rod, Bench, Sundberg, Crandall, Parrish, Larry Brown....everyone's got a damn cannon. I'm not running against 8 or 9 of these teams...

Yeah, you make a good point regarding the steals. My team strategy is "conservative" on steals, and 6 of 8 starters are set on "do not steal." I've got 7 attempts through 24 games.

Regarding home runs, this is very different than my first time doing ATG. My first ATG league had an average of 1.15 home run per game per team over the course of 162 games. In this league, after 24 games, it is 1.46 home runs per game per team.

One team had 20 home runs in a single series (the Bay State A's).

So, here is an update on our "OFF-SEASON" league, from a Rockland Rescue Cats perspective...

I can't complain. The Almighty HAL is being good to me in so many ways. I am 18-12 after the first 20% of the season, and right in the thick of the playoff positioning. My Mark McGuire has 17 home runs in the first 30 games. At that rate, he might get in the 80s or even 90 home runs. Overall he is a god, and against right handed pitching he is just rediculous.

Well, actually I will complain. Or just note something interesting. My Ralph Kiner (whom I love because of his broacasting with my beloved loser Mets), has been injured four different times,missing about 12 games overall. Very odd, given his real life 669 plate appearances.

My nemesis so far is the Chico Salmon. They are like my better twin or something. Everything I try to do, they do just a little bit better. I am 17-7 against everyone else, and 1-5 against them. When I play them, Rico Petracelli seems to hit a home run every at bat.

The average ERA per team right now is just under 5. A lot of runs are being scored!

Update on our ATG V6 "OFF-SEASON" League at the 54 game mark, 1/3 of the way through the season.

The Chico Salmon, the Battleford Bohemians and the Bay State A's are dominating, averaging 35-22 between them.

The Southside Ghostpeppers and the Southpaw City Sidewinders are leading the rest of us in trying to chase the leaders down.

Bonds (35 HRsand Musial (24 HRs and .390 Avg.) of the A's are kicking butt, and lead the early MVP conversation. Petrocelli of the Salmon (30HRs, 78 RBIs) and Edmonds (19HRs and .467 OPB) of the Credits are also having awesome years.

Battery-mates with the Battleford Bohemians (and former Astros!) JR Richard and Nolan Ryan (17-5 between them) are mowing them down despite the high powered offenses all around them, and lead the MVP consideration at the 54 game (1/3) mark. And out of the pen, the A's Dale Murry (11-5 with 4 saves) is just amazing. Starting pitcher Satchell Paige (Single A Spuds) with his lead leading 2.60 ERA and Dennis Eckersley (the Sidewinders) with his league leading 15 saves have also been dominant.

The Central Division has the best pitching, which is relative, given that no team has an ERA under 4.00. The Battleford Bohemians are at 4.02 and the Frankenstorm Galeforce are 4.08, leading the league. The rest of the teams are at 4.50 and worse. The Bohemians and Galeforce are also strking everyone else out, as they are #1 and #2 in that stat as well.

The other pitching notes are as follows: the Using up My Credits have a respectable WHIP of 1.27 (leading the league), and also lead the league in complete games (27), and the Chico Salmon are proving to be hard to beat when ahead late, saving 23 of 29 games--tops in the league.

The Chicago Next Years are the only team with over 30 steals, they have 43.
