Jedi Mind Trick :o

Associated Press

Buster Onley, reporter for ESPN, suggests that Michael Young may be the next to move on from the ranks of the
Evil Empire. "Given the move made recently, this indicates a trend" said Onley, "of possible steroid use by
management." "this could mark the end of a brilliant career and what could have been the first, first ballot hall of
fame General Manager. "When told of Onleys statements, GM Mike Lopp is quoted as saying, "That just makes me
mad."

2 Things:

1. Don't we have a prospect draft coming up?
2. Doesn't it take a vote (super majority) to change the constitution?

The next prospect draft will be after the Spring FA draft next year.

The constitution currently calls for two individual prospect drafts totaling four prospects all told.

rules clarification

PostFri Nov 23, 2012 2:17 am

I am seeking a rules clarification on what constitutes a prospect. Is it that a prospect is promoted to the
roster the year after his first at bat/pitch in the major leagues?

In addition, if we use the 2 year rule for prospects, I feel their time as prospects should begin at their drafting.
Adding or subtracting time would be confusing to someone as dim witted as myself.

As I understand the rules, the scenario you're describing is not relevant to the rules. Because even if your prospect gets carded by SOM you can still hold him in prospect staus for two years from his initial drafting date (from his initial time selected in the prospect draft). Of course if you do promote a prospect (carded or not) to your 40 man then he cannot be moved back to prospect status again....ever.

EDIT: It may result that a prospect is carded and then promoted by a league member a year after his first MLB AB/pitch but it's more important to focus on the fact that regardless of MLB time your prospect may have accrued you can only hold a prospect in prospect status for two years from his initial prospect draft date (be it from you or whomever). At that time you'll have to either cut, promote, or trade the player.

As to the first part of your question #4 of the Prospect draft in our rules answers that...

4) Only those players without MLB experience signed by MLB teams are eligible for any prospect draft.

Please note that this can and does include non-drafted players that are signed by MLB teams. This typically includes foreign players.

From the AP....

The Evil Empire has just completed a deal with the Death Valley Reapers moving Michael Young and Tim Hudson in exchange for Hanley Ramirez, Ian Kennedy, and a 3rd round FA pick. The deal is the second between the two clubs.
Already there are rumblings of "collusion" in the the league. GM Mike Lopp is recorded as saying" We met at our hypnotists
office to finalize this one" " I still need a cigarette though" Death Valley could not be reached for comment.

Mike, at the rate of your trading I'm afraid the AP teletype machine will run out of ink. Although I'm not sure about how they keep running like they do. They're always typing away. I guess they have a never ending resevoir of ink somewhere.

I actually saw those machines in action (AP and UPI teletypes) when I went to Journalism school in the Army. They were right there typing as soon as you entered the building (DINFOS in Indianapolis, IN). That was back in the early 1980's.
