I am probably going to regret posting here, but going to try and clear up a few issues raised in this thread. First I want to specifically address two pitchers that came up in this thread:

1) Higbe- I went back and looked at the pricing model and Higbe should have a price of $4.83, so not sure where in the process his price tag got messed up.

2) Claude Hendrix- Claude is "underpriced" based on the review teams feedback. If pricing were based on me alone, he would probably have a price closer to $3.90M. However, unlike some of the theories postulated above the set is not priced by one person. The testing group felt non asterick starters where overpriced and that the assumptions around Innings pitched for these players was too high, so these assumptions were adjusted.

I have a spreadsheet model which breaks down the probabilities of every event that occurs on a strat card. the model then applies values to these events to reach a runs created equivalent for each player, which is then used to generate a price. I set the initial values of these variables based on sabermetric theories and then send the first pass of the results to the test group. Based on feedback from the test group these variables are changed until this team of testers are happy with overall pricing. I started out as one of the testers, reviewing another members pricing model.

so childsmwc, are you saying that you are an employee of strato and directly involved in setting actual pricing for ATG7?

And yes, the lack of game play rules and procedures is a glaring mistake. How are new players, that do not own the board game, supposed to know how all of the information on the player cards is translated into actual game play?

it goes well beyond the board game rules. The rules for the computer game are different from the board game in many ways. And there are many options on the computer game that can be turned on and off. Plus there are hidden things that happen based on ??????.

Valen,

No I am not an employee of Strat. I am a user of the product like you. Strat has historically pulled members of its community to test each new version and provide feedback on pricing. I have been involved with that process for many years and am now responsible for the primary model which generates the prices. So as far as pricing the upcoming 200 additional players, Bernie sends me a file I plug them into the formula used to price the current set and return that value to him. The formula itself however, was set by a tester group back when ATG 6 was released.

And did you have a different name before the transition?

I don't know why it's such a deep dark secret and he posted his former handle over in another thread. It's Bbrool - and about as long time vet as I can remember, going back to ATG-I in the very beginning. :)

Moose is there a list of people, like myself, who changed names with the transition? I seem to recall something like that from the Barnstormer roster at least.

I figured it was the tourist. He may have been involved since atg-1 but his frequency of playing atg competitively warrants the tourist designation.

I had leaned on Bernie pretty hard to adjust the pricing model on the pitchers which I was happy to see implemented. I was also pleased to see the 5 day starters further reduced. But someone screwed up. Higbe is an anomaly among the * starters, but there is a whole bunch of non* pitchers priced around 2.40 that are way underpriced. Hendrix is just the most glaring example. Be nice if this was fixed somehow, someday.

I don't have such a list but I could compile one going back to my spreadsheets from 2008-2011 of Barnstormers participants and comparing names. For my 2012 spreadsheet, I just kinda wiped out the old handle and plopped in the new one. I think at least a third to half changed their handles. Darn frustrating for a while there.
