I have attached the "rules" for the league:

Initial Draft:
1) The initial draft will be a 41 round live draft. Rounds 1 through 40 will be for players and Round 41 for the stadium choice.
2) Any player that has been carded in the 2011 or previous set(s) (not to include “unleashed” players) are eligible.
3) The initial draft will be serpentine. All subsequent FA drafts will be non-serpentine and will be based on the previous season’s combined regular season records. Draft picks may be traded.
4) There will be a 3 hour clock for picks with no clock during the weekend.

Supplemental Free Agent drafts:
1) A Supplemental FA draft of up to 3 rounds (36 picks maximum) will be held in mid-July each year during the actual MLB All-Star break week.
2) All owners must announce any roster drops (up to 3) prior to July 4th or will forfeit any supplemental picks.
3) Owners may not draft more than 3 players and are not required to draft any during the Supplemental period.
4) The Supplemental FA draft will be non-serpentine with draft order determined by the previous season’s regular season W-L record.
5) Only players that have been “carded” (not to include “unleashed” players) are eligible to be picked.

Annual Spring Free Agent drafts:
1) A non-serpentine FA draft of at least 10, and no more than 15 rounds, will be held each year within a week of the new set’s release from SOM. Draft order will be determined by cumulative W-L regular season records with a worst to first like the NFL.
2) All owners must drop enough players to bring their rosters to a maximum of 30 players allowing for 10 draft picks. Owners may drop below 30 but must stop at 25 prior to the draft. If an owner has obtained FA picks via trade(s), they must follow the above rules and if they utilize FA picks obtained prior to the 10th round, they forfeit any further picks once their roster is at 40.
3) All owners must announce their roster drops prior to March 1st (assuming a mid-March player set release from SOM).
4) All owners must have a full 40 player roster upon completion of the FA draft.
5) There will be a 3 hour clock for picks with no clock during the weekend.

General Rules:
1) There will be 2 (possibly 3 upon a vote) seasons played each year with Season 1 beginning after each year’s Spring Free Agent draft and Season 2 after each year’s Supplemental Free Agent draft. **We will adjust this if majority vote for 3 seasons**
2) Divisional assignments will change each season. The format will be as follows: a) Initial divisional assignments will follow the 1-4-7-10 (East), 2-5-8-11 (Central) and 3-6-9-12 (West) format and number assignments will be based on Initial FA draft order.
3) Cumulative regular season W-L records will determine divisional assignments for Season 1 of the new year.
4) Divisional assignments for each Season 2 will be determined by regular season W-L records from the previous season.
5) All transactions must be posted on the individual league thread.
6) The league commissioner will maintain a record of all drafts, transactions and player movement and provide a copy via email at the beginning of each new year or upon request.
7) All ties between teams will be broken by the previous regular season’s head to head W-L record and if needed, cumulative head to head regular season’s W-L records will be used.
8) All rules changes will require 8 owners approval to pass.
9) There are no specific rules for “roster dumping” as long as all roster requirements are met. It is expected that all owners will act in the best interests of the league and game regarding this.
10) All leagues will utilize the DH rule.

Stadium Rules:
1) Each owner will draft a stadium during Round 41 of the Initial Free Agent draft.
2) Stadium draft order will be the reverse of Round 1 from the Initial Free Agent draft.
3) Stadiums are unique and belong to each owner for the duration of the league so choose wisely.
4) Stadiums can only be changed via trade and may not be traded while a season is in progress.

Roster Rules:
1) Each team must carry a maximum of 40 players. In the event a transaction sends an owner’s roster above the 40 player maximum, the owner has 1 day to bring roster back to 40. If an owner has less than 40 players due to trades, the owner may not bring their roster to 40 until the FA draft, whether Spring or Supplemental or through an unbalanced trade in their favor as long as the 40 player maximum is kept.
2) Each team can carry a 25 player roster during each season with the remaining players being considered in the “Minors”.
3) Each team may add an additional 3 players (to a maximum of 28) to their MLB roster once game 132 has been played.
4) There are no limits to transactions between an owner’s Major or Minor league rosters except those internal to the SOM game engine.
5) Injured players can be kept on a team’s Major league roster for the duration of their injury. A player or players may be promoted to the Major league roster as an injury replacement(s) but must be returned to the Minors once the injured player(s) have healed. There will be a 2 day grace period to return players to the Minors and will be based on an “honors” system so please remember to return injury replacements in a timely manner to the Minors.
6) Each team will be set up with a $200 million salary cap and we will utilize a 10% FA penalty.
7) The minimum roster size is 30 players with the only exceptions happening during the Supplemental and Free Agent draft periods.
8) All teams must meet the SOM roster requirements at all times.

Player Movement:
1) The trading of players and draft picks is authorized and encouraged. Unbalanced trades are authorized provided the 40 man roster limit is maintained at all times. In the event of an unbalanced trade, the owner of the team whose roster exceeds 40 players is allowed 1 day to release player(s) to bring them back to 40.
2) There will not be any pickups of Free Agent players except through the Annual Spring or Supplemental drafts.
3) Players can only be released from the 40 man roster for the following: a) pre-draft release prior to Annual Free Agent draft, b) pre-draft release prior to Supplemental Free Agent draft, c) to bring a roster down to 40 as a result of an unbalanced transaction.

Every trade must be posted on our Individual League Chat thread in this format:

TITLE: Trade Announcement (be sure to change it if there’s something else in Subject line)

edub1969 (or team name) trades:

Josh Beckett SP
Adrian Gonzalez 1B
1st round Spring FA pick

to (manager or team name) for:

Matt Kemp OF
Daniel Hudson SP
4th round Spring FA pick

**If trade is unbalanced and you know who you’re dropping, include in the above under “Dropping”**

It is the responsibility of each owner to check our Individual League Chat thread on a regular basis to include the “off-season”

I vote for 2 seasons for every card year. This is my first keeper league. I have wanted to do this for awhile. The problem I have seen with these is players drop out all the time.

PLEASE if you do sign up for this stick it out no matter what is going on with the site. If you can't please try and find a replacement on your own before dropping out.

Mike

I agree Mike...it's one of the reasons I wanted to set one up this way (without prospects) not as "in depth" for info gathering so hopefully we can keep interest for many years!

This will be my first keeper league also, so I like the idea of two seasons per year and no prospects which I think will help keep it simpler.

I'll abstain from the 2 or 3 year vote Either way is ok- I'll go with the majority unless my vote is needed. Two thoughts. One was brought up by Mike. This is a keeper, so I hope everyone plans on being around for more than 1 or 2 years. Another is the divisional alignment. The way the rule reads is that after the first seasons start, the divisions are: the best four records are in one division, the next best are in a division and the worst four are in a division. The problem is that the 3rd and 4th best teams are often left out of the playoffs and the 9th or 10th best teams would be in the playoffs, i.e. winner of the division with the 9th through the 12th best teams. Just a vote for random divisions each season.

I understand...the keeper I'm in now is set up that way and I feel the same so we can definitely look at randomizing that!

Ok everyone we are full! I've asked for a randomizer so that we can get drafting this week.

There are some things we will need to vote on as well while we are drafting and I will get those out to you as well.

The name of our league (unless someone suggests a different one) will be The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and will show up in the chat threads as L.E.G. I will get some threads going on this for the draft, trades, etc...

Please send me your emails so we have them if needed and thanks for the interest!

Not that I'm in the league, but as someone who helped write alot of these rules, the reason it was set up that way was so there would be a change in the playoffs from season to season within one card set. Having the 4 playoff teams from season one all be in the same division in season 2 guarantees that at least 2 of the payoff teams will be different from season to season therefore giving some of the weaker teams a playoff shot and hoepfully keeping their interest in season 2.

Not that you need to keep it that way, just giving the reationale for why the rules were written the way they were. I've alwasy felt the biggest problem facing a keeper is maintaining interest for the teams not doing as well, so by allowing for those teams to see a pontential reward by way of possibly making the playoffs, it kept interest through the second season and hopefully cut down on inactive owners and or drop outs.

Just my 2 cents. ;)
