Suggestion to accompany some pre- 1900 cards

PostSun Dec 09, 2012 11:05 am

There are several recent card additions that are begging for a rules change and repricing. I would like to suggest that a new category or categories of pitcher ranking be instituted.

Much in the way that most modern pitchers are not allowed a * rating (i.e. they must rest 4 days between starts), there are pitcher cards who historically pitched on 2 days rest and performed well.

I would propose that the likes of Pud Galvin, John Clarkson, George Bradley and John F. Coleman should be given a ** rating and allowed to pitch on only 2 days rest. Their cards would then merit a higher price, but this would be a better reflection of their actual play.

What do you all think?

Probably a nice idea but this option is not even available in the card or computer game itself and so this is a MAJOR rewrite and decisions on this would probably have to reach the highest level at SOM itself. This would also have to trickle down to major code changes for the online game and I can think of a lot of other things that I would think are much higher priorities for the online game.

Moose,
I agree this is not a priority at all. However, as to the board game - of course it is an option. I play some pitchers with zero games rest (with mutual agreement) when using cards, dice and paper. I am not a professional programmer, but this also does not seem a monumental programming task. The pricing decisions, however might be a major barrier.

John F. Coleman, at least, would not be an issue, since you can't go any lower than $.5 million and he's not bringing any value to the table.

I'm not sure ANYBODY would even want Coleman to pitch on ANY days rest let alone 2-3...

Many of these 400+ pitchers pitched in an era where all you did was toss the ball up to the plate with whatever spit or whatever you could come up with to make it move. At one time some of these guys even pitched when the rules allowed the hitter to request the pitch be in a certain location.

These were not high stress innings being pitched. None of those guys could step up and throw those kind of innings in the post dead ball era.
