sounds great, but then they would have to give us the ability to do polls again.

that would be very helpful, but not necessary ... you could just have people list choices on a thread, and someone (hopefully make that plural) would have to take the time to tally them.

I don't think that type of scatter shot approach soliciting input from message board denizens - like we've done in the past - works very well.

My proposal would be assemble an esteemed group of 10-12 experienced players, a "Veterans Committee" if you will, to submit names for consideration, discuss the pros/cons of each, then each member ranks their top 20-25 choices to be added to the set (similar to the way MVP voting occurs), compile the vote total, then submit the results to the powers-that-be at SOM.

I think this approach would be easier, and have greater acceptance from the masses.

One might theorize that the inclusion of so many low value cards was an attempt to provide useable cards for the 60 mil cap leagues. Adding the best season of a player's card that will be in the 10+ mil price range does little for those who play that cap level. Though I have to wonder how many of these new cards will even get used in those leagues.

On adding top level cards no committee or whatever is needed. Just systematically go through the HOF members and make sure we have the best card for each. Then follow that up by making sure we have any missing MVP seasons or CY Young seasons for all players.

Next up would be to add any cards of players who led the league in SBs, then HR leaders, RBI leaders, BA leaders, SLG leaders, etc.

In other words there are plenty of objective means for selecting future card additions without giving a subset of those playing control over what cards get added.

Gents its simple:

let everyone who signs up select ONE card to add.
If less than 200 people sign up, then you let those who sign up add another one.

Very little confusion this way.
Very little issue since everyone who wanted had input.
Very little complaining about SoM choosing poor additions.

Salty,

You're a genius! (though what do we do if someone chooses Roger Freed or Rudy Pemberton -- these are potentially Gates Brown x 50).

If someone chooses a card that we think is going to be an issue (gatesx50)
just eliminate it from the available list- and let them pick again.
There are a few of those plus a couple guys that came out in the extra-set list that pitched only 20 or so innings with low ERAs, I just wouldnt include em.
