Setting help for starting pitchers

PostWed Dec 12, 2012 2:56 pm

I am currently in a league in which I have no real options for a decent reliever other than maybe Bill Henry. The theme of the league is that each team is made up of only players that made their debuts with the chosen franchise in 1954 or prior - my team is the Boston Red Sox. (There was a 2 round supplemental draft of NeL players but they offer no decent RP either).

I am thinking that my best course of action is to do as i've seen other managers do - that is to set my starters to be workhorses and minimize RP usage. I have set my SPs to slow hook and the F factor to anywhere from F5 to F2 depending on the starter. Am I doing this correctly? I would appreciate any and all help with this.

Under Team Strategy : Closer Usage - Regular & Relief Usage - Conservative. Under Pitcher Preferences: Don't Rel. B4 - 7 & Hook - slow.

The Sheik,
thanks for sharing the information. I have always been curious about trying this strategy but to date i have usually had decent enough closer types available to go the more traditional route.

Thanks again

IMHO, i tried to go F5 and under for a super reviever like Eck or Wilhelm to maximize his time in the game, but he kept getting blown to smitherines every time he went that low. I no longer do that for anybody. I most I will do is to set it to pull him at F7. Same for starters. Even for Pete, if I set him to F2,F1 - he gets destroyed on his way down to that fatigue level.

Your mileage may vary, but I had to stop doing that. :o
