Now having options like allowing Ozzie to bunt more vs lefties makes sense to me
Love this idea.
or set a base runner to aggressively steal second, but not third
Love this idea too.
but "reverse line ups" are a made up benefit of seeing strat cards...and have little to nothing to do with real Baseball....
It has as much to do with real baseball as pitchers being reverse in the first place. Or as much as knowing in advance that TED KLUSZEWSKI will be hitting leftys better this year (2L in 55) than another year (7R in 50) or knowing that Maddux will be hard on righties (4R in 92) or that he will be a reverse pitcher (2L in 94). A large part of Strat is knowing these things in advance. The only reason you know that the 94 Maddux is a reverse pitcher is you have the made up benefit of seeing the strat card. Using any pitcher because they are a reverse pitcher in that year and then complaining because the opponent is able to know the same thing you know and plan a lineup accordingly is a bit hypocritical.
And as I have noted before the Rangers the past 3 years have used statistical trends to in part determine when to go against the normal platoon and start Murphy against a lefty instead of Gentry or Napoli against a righty instead of Moreland or at times even Gentry against a righty. Real life managers use their knowledge of an opponent to make out their lineups on a per game basis. The closer we can get to being able to do that same thing instead of having to set a lineup for 3 games and accept whatever bad matchups that gives us in one or more of the games is a step toward the real thing. And the closer we get to real baseball, or even just the closer we get to face to face control the better the game is.
