Introducing it to current leagues was a mistake.

I would love to hear of some examples where this new feature came into play.

Changing stadiums after your draft gives more managerial control too, but I'd be against it because not only does it dumb the game down but it's as unrealistic as anything here could be. (imo)

Now having options like allowing Ozzie to bunt more vs lefties makes sense to me...or set a base runner to aggressively steal second, but not third an certainly not home also makes sense to me...Or to more aggressively steal with two outs or some such...or have the pinch hitting feature applied correctly, since guys marked avoid "rarely" get pinch hit for regardless of a 200m roster with half dozen appropriate choices on your bench..... but "reverse line ups" are a made up benefit of seeing strat cards...and have little to nothing to do with real Baseball....

Bobby Bonilla almost always batted lefthanded against John Tudor. I know on at least a few occasions Robby Alomar did the same against Jim Abbott.

And Wilbur Wood started both games of a double header once.

And Eddie Gaedel drew a walk once.

And one Manager in history bats his pitcher 8th.

And they used to allow hitters to tell pitchers where they'd like the balls thrown (seems like we have that here)

Really that's why I said it had "little" to nothing to do with real baseball....Leave it to us to wanna take a rare occurrence and turn it into a routine part of the game...but hey let''s get rid of that damn super reliever stuff huh. lol

So what? Irrelevant to the conversation.

A manager who has won championships I might add. I would not mind having the control to hit the pitcher anywhere in the lineup we want.

So what? Irrelevant to the conversation. Happened in the 1800s and one of the reasons records from that era are not considered valid by many.

Being able to control who starts each game, what position they play, and where in the lineup the bat is a decision that gets made by every manager of every team every day of every season. I would say that has EVERYTHING to do with baseball. But then I am not trying to come up with bogus reasons to oppose something.

I consider the super reliever to be a fundamental flaw in the game indicating a poor rule relating to how frequently a pitcher can throw without fatigue. But accept it as a common strategy and one most everyone is forced to use to some extent to be competitive. Doing something about it one way or the other is to me a separate issue from the other issues of the game. I see no reason to put a ban on other enhancements until that flaw in bullpen rules and ratings is fixed.

Its the same reason we dont have aluminum bats and raise the pitchers mound.
Each gives better 'control', but MLB hasn't done either- and I imagine wouldnt deign to do it without a full owners meeting approval first- and a hell of a lot of studies.

How are aluminum bats relevant to the discussion of lineup control? What major league manager is ever forced to make out his lineup at the beginning of a series and is forced to use that same lineup all 3 games. NONE.
All this feature does is bring us a step closer to being able to make out our lineup on a per game basis JUST LIKE REAL MANAGERS.

It amazes me anyone would be opposed to this. But what amazes me more are the silly reasons people come up with to try to argue against a feature that is absolutely a step in the right direction.

MLB does not allow aluminum bats because of the safety concerns regarding the greater speed of balls coming off major league hitters bats, not because they are opposed to greater control. MLB does not raise the pitchers mound because offense sells tickets and thus unlike those pretending to care about pitching needing help are not going to change it.

Glad to read all the concern about the need to give pitchers a break. I assume the next time turning on pitcher clutch comes up everyone will be in favor. I also assume next time I join a league it will be filled with teams playing in Petco instead of Wrigley, Polo and Hilltop. I also am looking forward to all the threads that will soon be created with creative ideas on changes that could be made to help pitching. I am sure there will be lots of ideas beyond the standard lower the prices and the nebulous nirvana of bullpen 3.
